I graduate from TX but I want to apply for initial licensure in Oklahoma

I will soon graduate from TX with my BSN however Oklahoma is my primary state of residence PSOR where I am also planning to work.

So I just want to apply to take the NCLEX exam and get licensed in Oklahoma, this would be the shortest route. I prefer not to go the route of getting Texas RN then endorse to Oklahoma since this route usually takes longer I think and more requirements.

So what I need to do is apply for initial licensure by examination with Oklahoma board of nursing and they will request my transcript I think and course descriptions. Then if they determine I’m eligible to take the test they will email me the ATT

above is my situation and below I have few questions I hope I can get answers for right here since Oklahoma board of nursing are not being helpful.

1. Why Oklahoma board of nursing wants to see the course descriptions?

2. what if Oklahoma determine I’m not eligible because course/course descriptions related issue ?

3. Can I apply for initial licensure in both TX and Oklahoma in the same time ? In case Oklahoma find me not eligible then I can just take the exam in TX.

4. My home address is in Oklahoma I I don’t have a permanent address in TX, would that be an issue when applying for TX licensure ? In other words do you have to be a resident of the state where you are applying to become licensed ? I know this is a requirement for the compact license but is it also a requirement for the single state license ?

Oklahoma will need to ensure that the program you attended meets their requirements for licensure. Since the program does not fall under the OK BON, it isn't preapproved and will need review.

There may be required courses to complete, or you may be required to meet certain criteria, such as nursing experience, and later endorse your license.

Both TX and OK are compact licensure states. I'm not sure how that would affect things related to legal residence for a single state license, but you need to be licensed in the state where your legal residence is for the compact license at minimum if not for both. This would also address your fourth question. Is there contact information that you can reach out to the OK BON for assistance? They are truly the only ones who can answer your questions with authority. Chances are, if the program is close to the border, they will already be familiar with it and grads from the program. Perhaps your school would have information as well.

I attended a program that was practically on the border of my state and the neighboring state. The neighboring state readily accepted graduates for licensure and were quite familiar with the program because of the proximity- it could be the same for you.
