as a follow up to my last post, my supervisor wants me gone, I was fired. I dont understand why. I thought it was going well. I performed all aspects of my job the way i was taught, i thought things were going well. espeically since the office manager and the doctor said i was doing just fine. i am really frustrated and i dont know what to do now.

I'm sorry and that really sucks. Try to find a place where you wanna be and where they want you.
You have so many areas to check out, try not to be limited by what has happened recently.
Try something new, just think of all the new people you will meet and who will want you to be there.
Good luck,
wg

What kind of facility were you at? Did they give you a reason why they fired you? How long did you work there? If it wasn't for very long I wouldn't list it on your resume. Or do employers have a way of finding out where we have worked in the past??? Even if it's not listed by us? I don't list a job that I quit after a month.

Oaooo Jess1983,
As mtngrl wrote,""IT's AN OPEN DOOR OUT THERE". I didn't think I would ever share this story, but I got fire in 1997 after being with the hospital 10 years. I have learned so much in nursing, about myself, people, management and the judicial system. I tried to pick up and go on, but this company was MEAN, . I love JACHO, I love those people who governs our license. Back to the MEAN people. They (HUMAN RESOURCE) made it where I couldn't work in my community. If God hadn't given me the strength to fight this hospital, I could not have done it. Anyway nurses are very special to God:) . If you are a true nurse from the heart, God got your back.
Jess1983, nursing is so open, we can go anywhere. We can travel and have it paid for, do research and contribute to society health issues, work with children if that's our passion, work within the legal scope to make it better, ... etc. The thing is, where is God leading you. Don't be like me, it took me 2 years to recover from my anger, I kept asking "WHY, WHY, WHY".
This was my answer, some people have issues (like you remind them of someone that hurted them; they feel threaten at your abilities; they are not confidence with their own skills and practices).
JESS1983 HOLD YOUR HEAD UP AND FIND THAT DOOR THAT'S OPEN. Maybe God wants us to reflect on ourselves through the storm. I remember saying, "God you mean you want me to be in Management one day and I said 'NO, NO' those people are not nice'. God reply, "I need someone who will stand".
Anyway, since I was fire in 1997, I have travel from Washington to Georgia to Tennessee back to Michigan, even turn down a few management position after they told me to name my salary. I raised two children who are now productive working citizens, paid off one house, paid off a few cars, contribute to all kinds of organizations in discretion (my passion), recently remarried and is purchasing another home.
JESS1983 you are a nurse, sound like a caring one. GOD got your back. HOLD YOUR HEAD UP, DO WHAT YOU GOT TO DO (RESUME, search job on line)
and FIND that OPEN DOOR. Oh, by the way, those MEAN people are a little less mean. God had me pray for them. And believe me, they have never fired another person the way they fired me.
Two weeks ago I have returned and took a staff position (after 9 years) in an area of nursing God gave me a passion for, I'm not sure where I'm headed. If it don't work out, I know it's plenty of open doors out there.
As much as they need nurses even if it was something you may have done, hospitals are doing everything they can to help us become better nurses.
That boss had some issues or she / he needs to attend more leadership classes. A good unit flows from it manager, a good manager flows from it directors, a good director flows from its CEO's / Human Resources and a good Human Resources department flows from it good legal representation. GOD sees it all, HE SITS HIGH AND LOOK LOW! TREASURE

Jess,
I'm SURE you did everything right!! I was also fired and didn't have a clue as to why. Someone recommended this link and I FINALLY went there and read what they said! Needless to say, I realized that it wasn't my fault that I was fired it was HER'S!!
Here is the link:

I had no idea that I was being bullied!

I am the one who posted that link here at allnurses.com some time ago, and you are right; it's a great place to go to learn how to cope with bullies of all kinds, at work, at home, at school, and in your family. It really is a great resource.

jess, you've just got to pick up and get another job. this field is HUGE, and there are more opportunities than you can shake a stick at.
take what you learned there, and go someplace else :). there's not another way to do it, except maybe hitting the lottery or finding a rich woman (my personal quest). :).

I went into that link and copied the page so I could have it for personal reference. I disagree though with her statement that 1 in 30 people are bullies. I think far fewer people are bullies. That is perhaps just her personal opinion because no studies are linked. Guess that would be too subjective. But great information there! Thanks for the link :)

I'm betting you are in a "right-to-work" state. Where I work, the union has to be given a reason before a nurse is terminated. The offense or pattern of actions has to be plainly egregious. We still have bad managers/administrators that play favorites but they can't bully or fire nurses they don't like.
yeah i am in a right to work state. here they can fire you for any reason or without a reason. i'm still going to school so hopefully i can find another job too. I'm going to apply to a nursing agency close to where i live. they offer 3 times the amount i was making, plus benefits. I only worked at this job for about 2 months anyway.

Don't feel bad I was fired before and it devastated me I was fresh out of school I made a mistake I forget to do this patient sliding scale and I panic because I was new I told the supervisor and she told me that it was okay but that week the DON called me in when I arrived she handed me my walking papers I was so angry, sad and I felt that I didn't no what I was doing I was only a nurse for 3 months at the time. It's been 2 years and I look back on that and thank the lord that it had happen because I went back into the hospital where I worked out of school and gain some of the best experience I can see how much I have matured as a nurse since then so take this as a learning experience and reflex on it and move on to something better and believe that the lord doesn't but a burden on you more than you can bare.
