I got denied and I NEED HELP!

Published

Hi everyone!

I am a re-taker. Ive been out of school for 2yrs and now im ready to face NCLEX-RN. I mailed them all the requirements they requested from me, and waited for their response. Its been 2 months already so i decided to call CA BRN to ask about the status of my application. I called them, had a few exchange of information and then i was told that i cannot take the board exam because according to them, i lack clinical hours. How is that possible? I will not be able to graduate if i did not complete my clinical hours after all. Plus, this is my 2nd exam. I already sat down for NCLEX-RN the first time and then now, i cant take NCLEX-RN for the 2nd time? How? Why?

Right now i am so confused. I do not know what to do anymore. I cannot focus on my review knowing that i cant even take the exam. Is there anyone here with the same situation? if yes, can you let me know what did you do? I need to take the exam as soon as possible. :(

A friend of mine also told me about applying in other state, im just not sure how it is.

I hope someone can help me and guide me on this.

Thank you!

I think you should call the board and ask them what you can do. Only they would know the steps you can take.

I am sorry that must be awful feeling. Are you a foreign graduate? if you are and had your papers evaluated through cgfns you can apply through other state. Some states require CES evaluation or cgfns exam. Don't give up I read a post not too long ago where one of the AN member stated she was denied through california and was approved by new york state of board.

Good luck

I did, they told me to leave a message to my evaluator and just wait for her to call me. :(

It is very frustrating karen :( and yes i am a foreign graduate. I graduated from the philippines. A friend also advised me to apply in NYC but the application plus evaluation and other requirements cost too much. I don't have a job so right now i don't know what to do. If i applied in NYC do i have to take the exam over there, too?

You can take the NCLEX in any location US or abroad. There have been many issues lately with CABoN denying initial and retake license by examination applications for internationally educated nurses (not only the Philippines). Since you recently applied in CA, you likely have a valid social security number so you can apply in another state but be aware that you will most likely have difficulty endorsing the license back to CA. NY is not a quick application process for internationally educated nurses, so be prepared for the wait. You can continue to review for the NCLEX while your credentials and application are assessed. Good luck

Moved to the International forumNCLEX is a national exam and for most generally only taken the once if passed. The issues will still need to be met even if you have a license in another state. Suggest you read the several threads we have discussing this issue

You need to check the boards of nursing in the other states to see if you meet the qualifications as an IEN, but you make sense in logic. Depending on what end of CA you are in there's Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah. There are links to all of the boards of nursing at the bottom of this site. Good

Oh no, so sad to hear about your denial. Yes, that's one of a few other items that can cause our applications to be denied by CA BON, the insufficient amount of clinical hours! This is also happening to many of my friends and it's not just in CA, there are other states with the same minimum hours needed.

We can meet the hours meant for our own graduation in our country, but it falls short of meeting some of the US requirements! One friend she found out was short one hour! CA BON will not budge from that either, even after re-submitting another sealed transcript from her school and no, it was not altered in any way.

We feel that many of our own colleges decided to reduce the clinical hours in order to make more profits for themselves by not having to pay the teachers and instructors the extra amount. It's nothing more than greed on the college people and those running them.

Better check each state's BON on how many minimum clinical hours are needed and if you don't see it in their website, e-mail the BON directly. As you know, if you can't pass the license exam taking here in CA, any other states license will not be able to get a CA license.

Get in touch with the Director of the CA BRN. If no help from her, contact your Senator's office and the staff who work there will contact the Director. Good luck.
