I didn't get in ;-( So upset!

Hi everyone, I'm an adult student who attends Suny Brockport college. I received my denial letter just 2 days ago and am so upset. It seems 300 or so students applied for just 80 seats, or so the gossip says! Now I'm debating what to do. I will have 61 credits after this semester finishes, so the thought of going to MCC seems a bit silly, as I'd certainly rather accomplish a BSN versus a two year RN for the same time frame of attendance. I have been thinking maybe I should just choose another major, but nursing is my dream, my goal and my passion. So how can I just change? I'm thinking of applying to Roberts Wesleyan, but figure the acceptance rate there will probably mirror Brockport. I'm just in such a rut right now, and am so upset, I just wanted to vent I guess. I am just blindsided, as I didn't expect this, just as I'm sure the other 220 students didn't either! Urgh! :crying2:

Hang in there. I can say that if it's your passion, don't give up! The right school/opportunity will present itself. Hang in there. I know the frustration but you will find a good fit!

Good luck!

This is what a career counselor told me.....in the community college I am going to, she said like 500 people apply for 88 spots. She said this is the case because it's a small community college and way affordable....so what she did was apply to one of the private colleges in the area and got in since there wasn't the same competition (not the same price either) ...and she also ended up getting in and getting her BSN instead .

so i"m not sure what you have available to you, but its worth checking into other schools in your area.

I am new to this whole process, so I'm not totally sure the way it all works. that's just what I was told

good luck:twocents:

I know first hand, how devastating it is. Did you at least get put on a wait list?

I feel for you. The programs I will be applying to are equally competitive.

First, good on you for coming here to vent your feelings. It's normal to feel crazy after all the work and hope you put on getting into the program. This is not the end of the road for you, only a temporary bump. Perhaps reconsider applying to the Roberts program--it is always good to have several eggs in one's basket, although I share your opinion that you would be better off to continue looking at BSN rather than RN because of the number of credits you have accrued.

Also, if you feel clear enough to do so in a few days, inquire with the SUNY program about what worked both for and against you in your application. If you stay open to feedback, this could be one of the best ways to strengthen a future application, and it will make you memorable because of your willingness to evaluate, regroup, and make a stronger candidacy next time. Also, inquire about alternate spots. Not everyone who gets accepted goes to the program, so there might be wiggle room in there somewhere.

Keep your head up. That BSN will be yours one day!

hey fellow upstate new yorker!! nazareth college. thats all i can say. i was just accepted there. they have rolling admissions so if you are qualified, you get in. no competitions or whatever, you just need to prove yourself academically. if you have strong grades in math and science, download their application and apply now. you may be able to start in the fall.

one vice though, they are expensive so be sure to have your financial aid stuff completed so they can instantly tell you what you qualify for in the line of financial aid.

good luck with whatever you decide to do

ps you only have to apply to the college, there is no separate application for the nursing program. if you get accepted to the college as a nursing major, you in.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies. I have been looking into different options all afternoon. I am not going to give up or give into another degree option as nursing is what my heart tells me.

IsabellasMommyRN2B-Thanks for the info on Nazareth, it's a bit far for me (I'm in Hamlin) but it may be worth the ride! I called Roberts Wesleyan yesterday and they told me they do "Rolling applications" I didn't know that's what that meant! I have the grades (3.4) so I should be okay there, well, pending how this A&P 2 and Chem class go this semester , but I'm at a strong B for both on midterm, so hopefully I can maintain that :saint:!!!

BabyLady-No, not even as much as a waitlister am I!!!!!! Nope, just a flat out "REJECT". It says "Insufficient reference's" or something like that. So I have to firm them up, which I could have. I'm kicking myself now of course, as I just didn't think the reference's were so important! Really, all it was, was a check off sheet type thing. I would have gone to greater length's had I known. Hind sight is a wonderful thing!

slslmt-My letter said "Insufficient reference's", but I think it's just they had to draw the line somewhere. A few friends of mine received the same reason and all had decent reference's, so who knows! But, yeah, I will firm them up. I just don't have enough classes to take to wait another year and a half for the next term to begin there. However next year is always an option, not one I want, but an option anyway!

**My spell checker isn't working! So I apolgize for all the typo's! :typing

please do no give up!!

if a nurse is what you really want to be, do not give up. My friend was finally accepted into a program last year after applying 3 years in a row. But she didnt give up and she will be graduating in a year or so.

I'm in the same boat. I just got my rejection letter. my school does points and due to a technicality, i couldn't use my college GPA(had to use GED score) so that really hurt my chances but i was still hoping i'd squeak by. well, i still have 4 gen eds i can take this fall, and for spring admissions i will be able to count my GPA so i'll about 30 more points than i need to get in so i'm set fro the spring.

I know it sucks to get rejected! Good luck next time.

There is a comment on this post to apply to Nazareth College. I applied to Nazareth College and did not like the way I was treated by their Admissions Staff. I received correspondence (handwritten) stating I would have an answer in a certain time frame and received nothing. After sending several emails and telephone calls, I finally received an answer. For the tuition costs this college charged, I was really disappointed with Nazareth College.
