This is what a teacher just came in my office to tell me! Seriously. Some of these teachers are either completely helpless or just want attention/TLC. She asked what she should do so I said "go home". I am sure she wanted me to say that to tell the principal she was "told to go home by the nurse". Again, most of my teachers are lovely, but there are a few that are in here more than the kids!!

I've had several teachers ask if they need to be evaluated by me before they go home. I'm like, nope, I'm not your doctor, you're an adult and get to make your own decisions on how you feel! You need to go home, go home!

I have only "sent" teachers home when I get the teacher in my office that is so very obviously ill and doesn't want to leave for [insert xyz reason]. Usually I nicely tell them to stop spreading their germs to the students and other staff and I will vouch if there is a real issue. Because honestly, they spread their germs to other staff and we end with subs galore and I end up with even more unnecessary student visits to my office.
Otherwise, you're an adult. You know how you feel.

I had a teacher come in last year and ask for ice. She had slipped in the know and twisted her ankle. I was happy to give her ice, but did no further assessment on her. She came back a few hour later and asked if she should go home. Her ankle did look pretty swollen, and she was gimpy. I looked at her and point blank said "You are a big girl, you can decide if you need to go home or not." I don't get why a grown adult needs another grown adult to tell them what to do!!

I don't know. Sometimes a little TLC with staff makes for good working relationships...

Most of our staff know they don't need any kind of recommendation from me to go home sick. I do get the occasional "temp check" or look in a throat - but really they are usually trying to STAY not go. I do a lot of blood pressures too. Not a big deal to me.

Exactly. Same thing for parents who send their kid in with a fever and tell them to go to the nurse. Then they can tell their boss "My kid's school nurse says Precious Snowflake has to be picked up"
