I've been working in long term care and I absolutely hate it!!!! I've worked there for about a month and I really want to quit.. it's making me feel as if I've chosen the wrong career path!!! The facility I work for is soo short staffed, pay isn't that good ($16) benefits are expensive and work load is horrible (50 to 1)... I'm trying to hold out until something else comse along, but I think I should get out now... before I jeopardize my license. Seeing that they're so short staffed and I don't feel properly trained!!! Sounds like an awful place. There ARE good LTC/SNF facilities out there. No harm no foul in looking for another job at a facility that isn't poorly run.

Well, if there's one thing we nurses have on our side is the ease of finding employment. You don't have to accept the first thing that comes along. Some places will over-work their employees and, as one particular nurse recently stated, nurses can vote with their feet (meaning they can walk off the job!)
On the othe hand, you sould find something that you can stay with long enough for some work history on your resume.

Maybe look into home health shift work- 12 hr shifts, overtime is often available...you can choose you own schedule, work is not exhausting nor overwhelming. Good luck to you!!

I suggest home health as well, UNTIL you find another facility to work at. If it makes you unhappy, don't stay. You are too early in your career to be discouraged and fed up. Home health is ALWAYS hiring and probably will pay you more, and you can do that until something else opens up!!
