i had my first day of volunteering on sunday but i now realize it will take up too much of my time... i feel really bad because i hate backing down on commitments. i am newly married, work full time and take classes two nights a week. at my current job i will work a half day on saturday and have a day off during the week but the hospital wasn't able to work with my schedule and could only schedule me on sundays. i also live an hour away from the hospital and it would take up 5 hours of my day. ( 3 hours volunteering and 2 hours there and back)j. when i called the hospital and explained the situation, the lady seemed nice but i could tell i was being an inconvenience . what do you guys think, did i make the wrong decision? also, i would love to work at this hospital when i am finished with nursing school, will this hinder my chances of being employed? tia!

I imagine this isn't the first time the hospital has been told by a volunteer that it won't work for them after all. I know that you feel bad, but if it just doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you.
An hour is a long way to drive one-way! Are there any medical facilities closer to you that you could volunteer at until you have time to drive that two hours?
Or could you try volunteering a couple of days more just to make sure that's the decision that needs to be made?
I hope it all works out for you. I don't think that it will lessen your chance to work there in the future. I think that it's admirable that you know exactly where your time needs to be spent.
