I've took my nclex rn exam last 4/10/2014 1st time. I failed on 75 questions, did the PVT even paid the quick results because i'm on denial..then the reality sets in..I FAILED! it sucks! I know i'm going to fail because i'm not getting those hardcore questions instead asking me simple questions like how to set up an IV. Although i'm getting hard questions at a time but it's not all the time and it got me worried. I'm really disappointed on myself. I'm a failure!!! I just got a baby and a house and my husband was relying on me to get a RN job soon to help with the bills. I feel ashamed of myself i failed those people who were counting on me. I've paid kaplan, ncsbn and do the saunders/cd...I've kept crying and crying:cry:.. i want to overcome this feeling and move on.

Pls Help me how to pass this exam. I really need to get back on my feet soon but my mind is scattered , i don't know how to start over. Any tips , resources? i really need to pass this exam soon so i could give a better future for my baby. I'm waiting for the official results from ncsbn to determine my area of weaknesses but i want to strategize as soon as possible on passing this dreaded exam. Pls help me. please..please...please...

Hi Jolly!

Sorry to hear that may God give you patience do not get disheart and dont give up you have to start from zero know its up to know you should know where your weakness are if its content start it again make your concepts .

Hello mamoli, thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm thinking about getting a hurst review this time and use kaplan for answeing questions since i still have few months left...hope it works..hope so

As what King Solomon said..everything under the heaven has a time...I believe you can do it the next time since you already know what to expect..you have already an idea how the exam goes. You can print or write in a paper and post it into the wall for example the normal values like fluid & electrolytes, blood products etc so that you can see them everyday so that your not so stressed to memorized, the more senses you used the better...Saunders was a very good book..it has 4390 questions..199 of those are SATA, master that SATA, remember that MASTERY IS THE KEY...Nclex SATA was more easier compare to Saunders..try to answer at least 100 questions a day and read every rationale...focus also on prioritization..PDA of Lacharity was a good book too...Know the infection control, the airborne, droplet and contact precautions. .therapeutic com(always focus on clients feelings Not om the nurse)..If pt was abused, focused on the priority of removing the pt from the abuser...know also the dangerous words (know by heart the test taking strategy in Saunders)...use ABC, Maslow or Nsg process in prioritization...Use the process of elimination...and of course HAVE AN UNWAVERING FAITH in GOD...He is the source and giver of wisdom...it is really impossible for us to know everything but if we have faith that God will be with you then Victory is certain...This is the problem of every test takers, they cannot overcome their anxiety...they don't have the peace and so when they sit in to take the test...nervousness rules...I'll pray for you...I have posted a blog if you want to read it...You can do this the next time...do your best and God will take care of the rest....

thank you engrnurse2014, your words are touching and motivating, it makes me teary-eyed. You're right it's the anxiety that kills me, i went to the wrong building when i took my exam and barely make it on time when i get to the right building. I didn't get much sleep the day before my exam, i think i've slept for an hour. It was horrible, i'm so tensed and i'm trying to calm myself down during the exam despite my head hurts from lack of sleep. I know i can answer quickly on each questions but during my exam i was pretty slow and everything is registering to my mind slowly.

I am writing down right now your tips preparing for nclex. I've read your blog too and congratulations to you and your wife for passing the nclex the first time you both deserved it. Somehow people like you makes me hopeful that there's still a chance for me to pass the nclex and it's not too late. Next time i will not let my anxiety eats me and believe more in myself especially have faith in God. Again thank you and God bless you and your family!

hi jolly., i can really feel you right now,. and I'm so sorry to hear that,. but it's not the end yet,. god has plans, and he'll give it on the right time,. everything has a purpose,. pick yourself up and don't lose hope,. it's not the end yet,. here's my tip for you, i just recently took my exam too last march 15, and i'l tell you what helped me pass. I've used mainly saunder's 5th comprehensive book, i've read it from cover to cover,. here's the thing, it would be better as test takers for us to know the"concept", in that way we can rationalize with the questions given,. try to get a notebook where in you can write the important details you'll encounter on your readings especially on the highlighted ones, and those concept which are in the box, those are procedures i believe, which can help you deal with SATAS and ordered responses,. know your lab values, what i did is, i took a paper to write in my lab values and put them on my wall where i usually study,. look at them first thing in the morning in which my memory works better,. cause i spent exactly 35 days as my time frame for my review, so i spent 8-10 hours reading but with more breaks in between cause i need also to refresh my brain lol, i mean have time to relax in between, do whatever you feel like doing,. so yeah, try reading at least 3-4 chapters per day, then after every chapter, answer the Q&A either in the book or the one in the disc, in that way you'll be able to recall what you've read,. i guess i was able to read it in 2 weeks, then after i did the 4000 plus Q&A in the disc, again, read the rationale and put more time practicing the multiple format types of questions after,. then on the later part of my review, 2-3 days before my scheduled exam, i read kaplan just to to study how to strategize, but again, it's not highly recommendable to rely on that, as i've said it's safer for you to know the concept,. i hope this will help,. keep believing jolly,. i know you can do it! best of luck and god bless. :)

Thanks a lot...it is my joy to help...

And as you read the questions look for the pattern on the answers...for example there is a question about side effect of a drug(in multiple choice)..you will notice that within the options if there are manifestations from the same system..eliminate that option already. Read the questions carefully...then be there at the testing site 30 minutes early..go to the place few days before the test...and set your mind that...whoowww..After my test..life will never be the same again because I'm already an RN...it's a great feeling..In fact 1 week before my test..I am already fired up to take the test. Miracles do happen and this what I believe, God is sending us His holy Angels to guide us as we answer..and the Holy Spirit to give us peace...fulfill your Divine destiny my friend...to be an RN and be an ambassador of care...

Hi pidgz, thank you for the piece of advice. After few days of wallowing and soul searching, I can say i feel better now and i'm ready to continue on my goal..which is passing the nclex exam. Yesterday I've received my Candidate performance report and it helps me to determine which areas I should focus more. I've realized that on my past reviewing, i've been overwhelmed by doing 3 books at once and got confuse because sometimes they differ on what they're trying to say for example is the lab values. This time I'm focusing on saunders for content and answer the questions in the cd. I think i will use kaplan for some Q&A as soon as I'm done reading the saunders book, since i still have some few months left on it. But this time Saunders will be my main book. I've printed my lab values and put it on my wall (front of study desk), bathroom and kitchen. I also bought a book for my things to review, things to read and remember. Somehow it helps me to remember it and concentrate on the subjects i want to dig more info. anyway congrats for passing your nclex ! hope i can pass the nclex soon. I want the RN in my last name =) Godspeed!

hello engrnurse2014, Thanks for the tips. I will take note of that. As I go through each questions i'm doing the process of eliminations and it really helps to bring my score up. I'm doing 100 questions/day and at the same time read, read more of the saunders. I made a vow to myself that i will pass my nclex the next time i take it. I will breathe in and out the contents of saunders and know by heart the strategies and lab values. Before I will take my exam I will go there so I could ease out a bit . I won't let my emotions control me. I told myself next time there should be a RN on my last name. I want to experience that feeling of joy, I want my loved ones to be proud of me too. I promised myself too that I will be the best Nurse as I can be.

"Just do your best and God will take care of the rest". God bless!:)

I agree about their helpful comments. Try to see what works for you. When I started reviewing I feel like I was going nowhere. So I made my schedule. Things that I need to accomplish in a daily basis and evaluate myself at the end of the day. I did that for almost 3months. As I see my scores getting higher, I started to gain my confidence knowing that I'm absorbing the contents and rationales I was studying. Believe in yourself that you can do it because YOU can! :) Have faith. I can't emphasize or describe how important this is, PRAYERS. :) They works every time. God bless you. :)

answer at least 4000 questions before you retake nclex. answering questions prepares you the best. at least that is what I think. and... read and understand the rationales.

Try Mathew 21:22 or Mark 11:24 but that's not Luke 15:7!
