I have taken the boards last month and was down in the dumps since I got THAT letter. I am trying to start all over and this time I am so disappointed that it gives me more drive to pass.
I have used Saunders before but was not able to finish the entirety since I ran out of time.I also had the La Charity book which I never opened because I was more focused on the other book. Now I no longer have the Saunders book since I just borrowed it and now the owner needs it. I have a minimum wage job that gives me 10 hours a week, with 3 kids and this totally makes it harder to have to retake the test. Mu husband is a student and we live with my in laws and its really hard to have to live with them. But I know that these sacrifices will be fruitful and I will be who I want to be in the future. The stories here inspire me to do more and be more.
Which books will help me in taking it the second time?
Thank you guys and to those who are still on the verge of that dream, hang in there. We know we all can do it.

Sorry to hear you failed the exam
Do you have any resources at all? Of the 3 times I took the exam I found Saunders to be the best and I am sure if you look on Amazon.com you may find the book being sold second hand but be aware the CD may be missing. Could you not try any libraries and see if they keep the book that can be borrowed. There is also a thread in the student section that lists a couple of other places where you can buy second hand books
Thank you silverdragon. The La charity book is all I got at this time. The second hand books online are like $5 less the new book's price. So I am looking around.
I am so sad, but seeing my kids makes me want to become somebody. I have to make it. God will help me and having a community such as Allnurses.com is totally an awesome place to interact and just open and let it go.So thank you all. I appreciate it a lot.
If that is the case and I know you said times are a bit tough at the moment but invest in a new book and keep practising questions. Make sure you understand the question and read the rationales they will either confirm your right answers or point you in the right direction with the wrong ones.
I am sure with determination you can make it just may have a few hurdles to fly over. Hang in there and good luck

If I were you I would sacrifice to buy a Saunders book with the CD. Surely, there is something you can forgo this month to make this work. You need that license to get out of your present circumstances, so do what you need to do to get there. Try to contact anyone you went to school with and see if you can borrow their copy. Good luck.

i snagged my Saunders on my local craigslist. it's abit beat up but it has the CD and i only paid 25 for it versus the nearly 50 new! you can put up a free ad on your local craigslist and see if anyone has it & needs a bit of cash!
good luck.

Try the library too - I found several books at the library.

I think the best resource is Saunders. Nursing theory is nursing theory and I will say go to Borders/Barnes and pick out whatever you feel that will most help you learn and go with it. No point in having too many NCLEX prep books cause it will only confuse you and make you more nervous.
I think Saunders is the most comprehensive and has nice pictures/illustrations for those who are visual learners. Its got more nursing theory then you will need for the NCLEX. I think KAPLAN book is also helpful but it focuses more on techniques to help you narrow your answer choices down but i don't recommend KAPLAN alone because theory trumps techniques.
Thank you for your kind words. I have been to the library but all they got are old Princeton books. I aint complaining and my husband's mom is very generous in providing us with everything even with paying for our cellphone bills. Its just that sometimes Im so tired of being bossed around cause I aint used to that. And I feel so inferior cause everyone in my husband's home are nurses and they all passed the first time which makes me even more inferior. I just feel so stupid for not having passed. Oh well, Now she lent me her ATM so I can buy the book. Now more pressure is on me. Oh boy..
Do not feel inferior, many many excellent nurses fail the NCLEX the first time. Hang in there and good luck
