I am sitting at my desk, reading post on this site all day! This is ridiculous. I have a 4 hour math class to attend this evening and I can't wait to get there.
I truly HATE my job, I am burnt out. I wish I could quit, go to school full time and work pt time as a CNA. I have been working in the administrative field for way..... too long. I desperately need a change but I have about 3 years to go before i graduate.
What happens in the meantime, do I continue to be miserable and unmotivated. Sitting behind this desk makes me feel lazy and pointless. I wish I could join the other nursing students in this site! I feel very sad that it feels like an eternity away.
Has anyone ever watched the movie "Office Space" my favorite movie of all times. I feel like the character that Ron Livingston plays. He just doesn't give a damn anymore.
I don't mean to sound so ungrateful for my job considering there are so many unemployed these days, but I can't shake the feeling
Just had to vent.

Well if there is not a whole lot to do on your job then you can do all your homework there. That would be perfect. Believe me, if you quit and do cna, you will want to slap yourself for talking about being bored! You will work yourself half to death and be too tired when you get home to do much of anything. You better milk that desk job for all it's worth!

Hi!! I just read your post and it reminded me of myself 6 yrs ago. I was working on a swine farm ( a dead end job) bored out of my mind and one day I decided to make a change. I worked during the day and went for my CNA at night , it was the BEST decision I have ever made!!! Here I am getting ready to enter the ADN program this Aug and realizing that all the hard work like getting all my pre-reqs out of the way and the personal sacrifices I have made are finally paying off . The dream of becoming an RN is now in reach !!! There is an old saying " The journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step" and that is so true but only you can make that step but you have be ready for it. I wish the best of luck in whatever you chose to do.

Well, from the "grass is always greener" camp I'll say that a lot of people would be delighted to have a boring job sitting at a desk with internet access and, presumably, air conditioning.
I would encourage you to make up some flash cards or something that you can review throughout the day.
I firmly believe that a person can only be as bored as they choose to allow.
Stick with it and keep working toward your goal on one day you'll look up and realize that you need to establish new goals because your current ones have all been met.
All the best to you.
Thanks for your reply's.
I wish I could do my homework but my managers are in the office and I would probably get fired. There are days that I am by myself and its possible but not today!.
I am doing my pre-reqs and will be applying to NS in 2010 for my ADN. I pray that this goes by fast.
Your managers are okay with you being on the internet at work, but not reading? That's weird.
No, my managers are not okay with me being on the internet but my screen faces away from them and I can change the screen quickly. And I can appear like I am working, I cannot quickly conceal a BIG Math Textbook.
My post is really about me being dissatisfied with my job, not trying to make excuses for not studying. As I mentioned I have a lot of days when I am by myself and I can, and do study, even typed a few research reports for my English class. Unfortunatley today is not the day!
Oh I thought that you were bored d/t lack of work. You're just not doing the work that you are assigned to do. Be careful with the internet use at work, your boss can see everywhere you have been and how long.
Yes, I am bored because I don't have any work to do, otherwise I would be doing it. However, in the Corp World they still expect you to keep busy, not put your feet up on the desk and smoke a cigarette if you don't have anything to do. Besides this is not what my post is about!
Do you have any more uplifting, motivational, inspirational comments? :stone

Well actually I was trying to be helpful. Just because your screen faces away from your boss doesn't mean that they don't know what you are or are not doing. And with the horrible US economy I don't want anyone to lose their job. And FYI, I did work a desk job in corporate America- that's how I know about the internet thing people really do get disciplined and/or fired d/t stealing time being on the internet. Also I have been a nurses assistant, LPN, and for the past few years RN so I was trying to give you the benefit of my varied experiences in many different settings.
I believe in being practical and telling the truth. I don't think that you need motivational or inspirational words, you need advice. I must have misunderstood what your thread was about because the title about being "bored" led me to believe that you wanted to know how to make wise use of your time at your desk.

I hear ya! I am totally opposite. I am a part time CNA/Homeschool my son/College student and I wished like hell I could be bored. I am so tired right now I can barley hold my eyes open and the only reason I am on here is to stay awake! but I understand what your saying. I used to work at a job that I stayed bored at (It sucked) just hang in there untill you get through school. It will be okay.
