HRSA Nurse Corps Scholarship 2020-2021

Published

I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?

While this is true, there is a clause within the contract that states if they don’t have the funding then there’s a chance we won’t get it. BUT to focus on the positive as long as they don’t run out of funding we have it!

I know ? I mentioned in my little post above that while people who receive a signature are chosen as a participant, there still might be a chance that funding may run out. So, while the applicants who get signatures are technically chosen as participants, we just have to hope the funding is there!

The positive is that receiving a signature is the second to last hurdle in this selection process. Definitely something to be happy about because not everyone gets a signature. Next hurdle is getting the funding!

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been reading through this forum since early June as I too am a finalist for the Nurse Corps Scholarship. Like many of you I received my counter signature on Friday, August 21st at around 1:40pm. I called HRSA today out of curiosity and I was told that if you got the signature then you’re selected as a participant. Then the representative tried to tell me that at the top right hand corner there should be a new tab labeled “Roles” once you’re officially deemed as a participant. Once you click on this “Roles” tab you should be able to move your status from “applicant” to “participant.” However, my account didn’t yet have this tab available yet and I was wondering if anyone does have this option? She assured me to just wait for the system to update and that this function would be available within the next few days. I’ve called them probably 1000 times and this is the first time I’ve heard someone mention this, has anyone else been told this as well?

Hi!

I've attached a picture of the roles tab, but I’ve had that on there since day one and it’s always said applicant. There’s no way for me to change it so IDK what they’re talking about. I received the signature on August 6th.

Thank you for sharing! So interesting my account doesn’t have that roles option at all. Out of curiosity have you tried signing in through the participant portal instead of the applicant portal? The HRSA representative mentioned that you can also switch back and forth there as well but every time I try that it says I don’t have appropriate permissions.

That’s odd but don’t sweat it because this whole process is. I tried logging into the participate portal but I got the same message as you.

After looking through the Nurse Corps 2020-2021 guide, I read that "In the past, Nurse Corps SP funds have been sufficient to reach only applicants in the first Tier". This may have been why people in the past were chosen as a participant but ended up not receiving the funding.

Tier 1 applicants are:

"Applicants enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited diploma, undergraduate, and graduate nursing program or accredited graduate level nurse practitioner program, including nurse practitioners specializing in Psychiatric-Mental Health, programs for certified nurse midwives, registered as full-time students for every consecutive term"

Tier 2 applicants are:

"Applicants enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited graduate nursing program for Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, certified registered nurse anesthetists or clinical nurse specialists as full-time students for consecutive terms."

Tier 3 applicants are:

"Applicants enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited diploma, undergraduate or graduate nursing program as part-time students, as determined by school’s registrar."

Customer service seems to not all be on the same page and sometime gives very misleading and conflicting information that’s why I think the safest bet is to be patient and fully wait it out for the official email with the scholarship package

I’m just praying I’ll get a countersignature soon ??

I don't think you meant it the way it was taken. Praying we all get it though ❤️

Those of you who have received a counter signature—are you going for your NP or RN?
