I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?

dang negative nancy; so what if its not a "definite yes" its another step in the right direction! Hopefully you get your signature so you can feel the same amount of happiness instead of spitting on the next persons joy.. people been stressing over this mess for nearly the entire year they have every right to be excited!

oh OK got u; but still baby girl the last thing we need is that type of energy tho! lord willing...I hope everybody who got a signature gets it!
The way I see it is the contract which is a legally binding document states that the secretary will only sign the contracts of those who have been chosen to participate. In the first paragraph! Therefore I think it is super justified and valid to be excited about receiving a counter sign. That being said I think we all know it’s not official until the offer has been made but I think it’s fair to be excited that next step is official :)

Agreed! I choose to be optimistic about things rather than pessimistic.
After re-reading the contract, I want to confirm what @mnurse1995 said regarding the countersignature. The first paragraph of the contract states: "The Secretary shall sign only those contracts submitted by applicants who are selected for participation." (refer to the second to last sentence of the contract's first paragraph).
As contracts are legally binding, this means that those who have received a signature by the "Secretary" have been chosen for the award. Many of us have received a signature from Jamie King, and, according to her Linkedin, she serves as the Grants Officer at U.S. Government, Department of Health. Whether or not her role is considered as the "Secretary", I am not completely sure. However, her position seems to be an important one.
This said, as seen in the allnurses forum for the 2018 Nurse Corps Scholarship, some of those who were chosen as participants did not end up receiving an award due to the funding running out. While unfortunate, the funding did not seem to run out the next year (according to the allnurses forum).
The good news is that those who received a signature from the Secretary have been chosen as a participant. Again, this is according to the legally binding contract. From here, we just have to hope that Jamie King is the Secretary and that the Program doesn't run into a funding issue come September.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk ? I wanted to provide some facts/ evidence to maybe help clear up and speculation or questions. I hope this helps!

While this is true, there is a clause within the contract that states if they don’t have the funding then there’s a chance we won’t get it. BUT to focus on the positive as long as they don’t run out of funding we have it!

If people chose to be positive and hopeful about it then they should be able too. Just like if you’d like to be cautious, then you can.
