HRSA Nurse Corps Scholarship 2020-2021

Published

I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?

Finalists:

So while we wait until we find out if we actually get funded... tuition is still due before start.

How are y'all planning on funding? (Grad students' answers especially appreciated!) Accept unsubsidized loans? Apply for Grad Plus?

I got $26,000 due before September 7th LOL.

Are we not supposed to put our work information? That’s what I interpreted. We don’t have the Scholarships EIN or anything since we get that information from the W2. I was planning on putting my employer. Anybody have any thoughts? Or do you mean something different? I’m not super familiar with W4 so what’s the difference in how you filled it out?

I have talked with them and you're supposed to fill it out like they are your employer so they know how much in taxes to take out before they disburse the scholarship to your program

Thanks so much! This may be a stupid nit picky detail but should we leave the entire employer section blank or write their name and leave the rest blank since we don’t have the EIN?

Congratulations everybody!!

Does anyone know how many applications are submitted and how many of those applicants receive the scholarship?

I was informed when I called that about 10% of applicants receive the award. Usually 2000-3000 apply and 200-300 get it

You'll get more money for Grad than undergrad from the feds. If you've been offered them, I would accept them now. There's something in their rules about not being paid back if receiving loans AFTER being notified of being a finalist. Check out page 14 https://bhw.HRSA.gov/sites/default/files/bhw/loans-scholarships/nurse-corps/application-program-guidance.pdf

I think I just messed up. For the contract, there was a big box and I assumed the contract wasn't loading. I put in my social security number and the other requested information and hit submit and it went through...was that big box for me to use my mouse and put in my signature...

Nevermind the password counts as the signature.

I’m wondering if technically we can still accept the financial aid loans because we don’t for sure have the scholarship. Based off the wording of page 14, I would think u can accept it up until the give us an official notice

OMG!! I just got an email Friday at 8pm that I am a "finalist"!! Super stoked, but also have a lot of mixed emotions because I don't know for sure! I called the HRSA rep this Monday and she said that if I am a finalist, I pretty much have it unless I changed my "site" (place of work) or defaulted/changed anything on my loans. Praying for finalized answers ASAP!! Does anyone know approximately how long it will take to go from "finalist" to "participant"?

Stats:

Enrolled at Duke University for Family Nurse Practitioner

GPA: 4.0

33 y/o female

I would call them and ask to be sure. They’re really nice on the phone.

I just spoke on the phone with them about accepting financial aid. They said that until we are officially accepted into the program we can accept the offer!
