How did taking the HESI affect your view on the NCLEX?

At my school, we take the HESI exam for each subject area, followed by the exit HESI at the end of the program. You need an 850 to "pass" the HESI, otherwise you take a 6 week remediation program and take the HESI again.

I found the HESI helped with the NCLEX, because my questions for NCLEX seemed easier than the ones on the HESI! (There was a question on my HESI exam which actually used some outdated PALS protocols. Boo.)

I passed the HESI on the first time, but was offered to take it a second time just to see if I would improve, and I did by over 30 points. It certainly made the NCLEX *seem* easier, but I've yet to get my results!

How does everyone who have taken both tests feel about this subject?

i did horrible on hesi got a 675 and passed NCLEX with 75 questions. I think HESI had to many basic knowledge questions on it and got to repetitive and it was to the point that I was like ok come on know bring on the critical thinking stuff. I see no point in the HESI being mandatory if so I wouldnt have been allowed to even take the NCLEX and look I passed 1st time with 75 and I was told I had no chance

I am so glad to hear that. We had to take the Hesi in order for our school to sign the NCLEX application. I took it got under 700 retook it got 882.

I am not a great test taker and I recently started Kaplan online in order to help me with my test taking and a review. I was doing saunders and was getting over 70% on those. I take it July 9. I am studying 4-6 hr a day.

I know many others who got over 960 and feels very confident in taking it. They have not been even doing questions because they think they will be fine.

Lyndsey- I'm so glad to hear that too!!! I was a pretty good student while in nursing school; I always got mid-high B's. Taking the Hessi at my school was optional,so I took it and got a 730!:sniff: While I didn't give it my all, I know that if I did I still wouldn't have scored above an 800.

I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX in 6 days! I've been doing Kaplan, and a little Saunders and NCLEX3500. I think my kaplan scores are good enough to pass NCLEX but in the back of my mind I kept thinking about my hessi score which worried me a little. I'm hoping and praying for the same results as you!! Thanks for making me feel better. :loveya:

I did kaplan and only kaplan so I didn't mix up test taking methods and study stuff I got a 62 on quest trainer 6 and 55 on qt 7 and I felt good but.. I read EVERY rationale for EVERY question I did on qbanks or qt's and that's what really made it all sink in. Personally I wouldn't do more than 100q's a day then you start to not retain anything. ( unless ur doing the qt with 200 and 265 questions) like I said I passed with 75 keep up on priority infection control (like types of isolatins for diseases) I got like 15 of those. You'll do great just don't OVER do it ull freak urself out! :loveya:

i strongly dislike the HESI. my school just implemented the specialty HESI exams for each subject so my class was the last class to only take the HESI exit exam. So we were never exposed to the HESI until our last semester. We were required to pass the HESI in order to graduate and allowed three times to take it during the semester. i could not pass the HESI for the life of me. and my school is pretty strict about not passing classes. we're kicked out after two strikes. I had already my first strike, and the HESI was my second strike. The most depressing time of my life. (already at the end of my nursing program and technically i was kicked out). However, I was given the chance to appeal and prove to a panel of nursing instructors that I deserve another chance. Fortunately i was approved to take the HESI a fourth time the following semester... and finally.... I PASSED.

as you can tell... the HESI was such an ordeal for me. But as much as i hate the HESI, i am thankful for taking it. because i honestly did feel that the HESI was much harder than the nclex. I studied soooo hard to pass the HESI, that when it came to the nclex... i passed with 75 questions!!!

Jassy, My school never exposed us to the HESi exam either. Like u we were given 3 chances to pass with a score over 750. I did not pass the first time, along with 14 other classmates. I got a 703. I was so upset but I took it again and passed!!!! 7 out of 14 had to retake it a 3rd time! that was the worst time for me and that is why now I am absolutely petrified of taking the N-CLEX now

I haven't taken the NCLEX yet but I passed the HESI today on the first try with no studying. I will not let my guard down about the NCLEX. Graduation date August 1, 2008. I can't wait!!!!
