Just wanted opinions on what you consider a reasonable time frame to return to nursing after a lap chole? Surgery was Nov 6 w/o complications, returned on the 24th to the floor w/ light duty.
Thanks

Follow Doctors instructions! As nurses I know we tend to think we can manage our own care ...but you should A. take as much time as you can get and 2. Follow docs orders!

I had emergency lap chole last may. Had surgery on Sat, discharged on Sunday, and went back to nursing school on tuesday. I had no choice, but I also didn't have to do any phisical stuff (clinicals were over). My Doc said that if I was working I would be off for two weeks. If Doc said you could go back, and you feel OK. Then go back to work. But follow Doctors orders and don't do anything to physical.

I was out 3 weeks......felt fine surgery-wise after 2, but had a hideous case of thrush that wouldn't give up. So that 3rd week was great. Follow your MD advice, and also what your body tells you! If you feel horrid, see your Dr, find out why, maybe a little more time (few days/week?) is needed???
