How soon is too soon to quit?

I am currently a CNA finishing up my prerequisites, and hoping to start nursing school in Fall 2019. I started a job 6 months ago working PRN in a doctor's office rooming patients. Although I LOVE my job, it isn't in a field that I have any interest in whatsoever- just good hours and nice people! Recently, a job opened at our hospital for a full time tech in OB. L&D or Mother/Baby and eventual WHNP is my dream job, so I would love to get a foot in the door. I live in a small-ish town and these opportunities don't open up all that often. I just feel so guilty for even considering leaving a great job with good hours after 6 months for a full-time night shift all while trying to balance classes! But man, it sounds like fun! Any advice?

First, apply. Then, see if you get an actual offer. If you get an actual offer, then you have a decision to make. I wouldn't worry much about it at this point.

Thanks for your reply! I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself, I'm just worried they will contact my manager when reviewing my application!

I left my first nursing assistant job after 5 months for an MA position.

Like Sour Lemon said, apply. On the application click "do not contact current supervisor." In the grand scheme of things, an employer won't think twice to let you go, so always be on the lookout for yourself.
