I came into it having an "idea" of what it would be like, but I had no idea the theory portion would be so intense and overwhelming in terms of the info. Not only did we have it done in 5 weeks, but we went through almost the entire book in that time. We didn't even have lecture first week due to Veterans day. 2nd week we had a double lecture which covered about half the book, about 14 chapters. Week 3 was the killer, we had two tests back to back on the same day. By week, more than half our class of 40 was failing, literally. Week 4's test helped a bit. Week 5 is this week and we just had our final this morning.
I came into my final failing (73%, 75% is minimum to pass) and I came out of the final with an overall of a 81% ; scored a 95% on it through no-life studying and ditching work the past week. Anyways, done with my story telling. I'm so glad peds is over...that is by far the HARDEST nursing class I haven taken so far, probably because we have it in 5 weeks, but still, peds is insane!

My Peds class was also 5 weeks. And it was the toughest rotation for me and the majority of my classmates. There was just too much information to learn and the teaching wasn't all that helpful. My Lowest grade this semester was from my Peds test. But Lucky for me I did great in OB and Psych and my school drops the lowest exam grade if you pass the final. And I know I passed the final with flying colors. But let's just be happy it's over for NOW until we have to review it again for exit exams and NCLEX.

Mine was ridiculously easy. Which is odd, because the rest of the program was unnaturally hard,
In fact, it was the only class that I got an A in. When I see people post their grade on the site, it makes me think that either they're super geniuses, or, not all schools are the same (in terms of difficulty).

My instructor covered the main diseases and eliminated a lot of it information that she felt like we could figure out through med-surg. I did well on the peds ATI though. Other instructors tried to cram in so much information that a lot of their students failed.

my was ridiculously difficult also with tons of information and a very short amount of time. I took my final today and went in with a 79% needing a 78% to pass. This is the first class I have been on the edge with through out the whole program. Now just waiting for her to add grades so I can see how I did. I'm so nervous.

Yea, every school is different xP, looks like you lucked in for peds. My bro said his peds class was difficult as well and he went to a different school than I did.
Wow, you lucked in as well, congrats to both of us for passing and getting through! Yeah, this was the first class I ever failed a test AND came into the final "failing." Definitely gave me a scare, but I'm all done after today, so winter break woohoo! Crazy though how I pulled off a 95% which like I said, not only made me pass, but bumped up my grade to an 81%. Major portion of it goes to my classmates. I usually have my own study group, but our study group for peds was doing terrible so we merged with another one that had the "top" students in our class and they definitely went out of their way to help us understand the info.

The peds class in my program (many years ago) was well-known as the toughest course in the program.

Every school has that ONE class that is the hardest. That ONE class where everyone is borderline.
I'll tell you what though ... I have never studied SO hard for a class as I did for OB ... I came out with my B and I still recall AND understand the material. My tough tough OB professor did me a hugeee favor.
In our school, it was two classes; Advanced Med-Surg, and Psych.
The former was hard because the teachers were new, and they made their own questions a lot of the time (bad bad bad). The former was tough simply because it was tough. There were mountains of paperwork to be done weekly, which made it all the more difficult.
However, like your OB class, I came out really knowing my Psych material. The blade must first pass through the fire and hammer before it becomes strong, and ready to be used.

My LPN Peds class was terrible, due to a really terrible instructor. She kept contradicting herself and veering off topic, while using tests created by another instructor. She tested us on material that she never taught. Many of the "correct" answers on the tests contradicted things that she told us in class. I'm just glad it's over.
