'A lot of us try not to think about it': How all Paradise schools evacuated with no deaths

...Eight of the nine Paradise Unified schools were destroyed or significantly damaged that day on Nov. 8; only Paradise High School was spared. Students return to class Monday, gathering on campuses or makeshift spaces outside of Paradise and many middle and high school students opting to do independent study.

When the school bell rings Monday, it signals a miracle: all 4,200-plus students are safe and accounted for, district officials said this past week. The death toll is a staggering 88 individuals, but none of the hundreds of district staff perished....

Praise be to God and the foresight and quick thinking of those who facilitated this miracle!! Amen!!

Truly devastating disaster- but thank god all students were physically OK. I imagine there will be a lot of work in the coming months and years to repair or address the psychological damage the residents will suffer from :(

Not going to lie. I'm a big ol' mess of bawling up in here.

In Olympia WA the year we had the giant 6-ish-on-the-Richter-scale earthquake, my son's teacher sat in a dark gym and read stories to the second graders until we could all get there. It took hours because the bridge that connected Olympia to West Olympia was damaged.

Bless those teachers, drivers, and administrators.

I can't even begin to imagine how horrific this was. So thankful to hear that everyone survived the fire. Now to work on healing the community. Love and prayers to all those affected by this catastrophe.
