How much did you start as a nurse and when.

Published

Just a curiosity thread:

What was your first nursing salary and when did you command what I'm sure is going to be such high salaries? LOL.

Me: 13.18/hr as an RN in San Antonio in 1993.

Ironically, I left my LPN job outside of Baltimore MD to take that job, and I was making 14.50/hr as an LPN in LTC in MD at that time.

(My first healthcare job, as a CNA in 1991: 6.20/hr.)

Specializes in cardiac/critical care/ informatics.

$14.?? an hour RN 1992 in dayton, ohio

About $8.00 an hour in 1985 in Arkansas

Specializes in School Nursing.

$8.58/hr 1986 in Erie, PA

i have a question. i apologize if its been asked. i was told that if a doctor performs a csection, the nurses make more money. or just in general, that csections cost more, therefore everyone makes more. i find this a ridiculous statement and was curious as to if its even remotely possible.

thanks!!

Specializes in Utilization Review.

$17.34/hr in 1998 RN; Philadelphia suburbs

Specializes in NICU.

$7.25/hr as a CNA in Fayetteville, NC in 2000

$17.59 as a new grad in 2001 in Durham, NC

In 2005, I moved to Abilene, Texas and even with over 3 years of experience, I started out at $19.08/hr, which was less than I was making when I left N.C.

Speaking of starting pay, my husband and I are moving to Nashville, Tn next May. I will have seven years of experience by then. I was just wondering what the starting pay was in that area, and by what percentage your pay is "bumped" for each year of experience you have. Thanks!

Specializes in ER, Occupational Health, Cardiology.

$5/hr at a GP's office in January, 1984 as an LPN. In May of the same year I went into a hospital in a Cardiac step-down unit, at $5.75/hr! I did everything the RN's did except administer chemo tx. That was when I decided I was, fer shure, going back to school. My first RN job was at the same hospital, in ER, 3 years later. I started at $12/hr.

1976, Arkansas, $3.25/hr

Specializes in Operating Room.

Not true..the only one who makes more money is the doc.
