How much did you start as a nurse and when.

Just a curiosity thread:

What was your first nursing salary and when did you command what I'm sure is going to be such high salaries? LOL.

Me: 13.18/hr as an RN in San Antonio in 1993.

Ironically, I left my LPN job outside of Baltimore MD to take that job, and I was making 14.50/hr as an LPN in LTC in MD at that time.

(My first healthcare job, as a CNA in 1991: 6.20/hr.)

ETA: What's really screwed up is there are RN's in my unit who have been there for 15-20 years and are making the same as my classmate who just started out as a new RN at $33/hr.

I started a job at a doctor's office in 1992 as soon as I graduated from the LPN program. I hadn't yet received my work permit, but did things like answering phone, etc for $6.50/hr. When my permit came, I went to $7.50/hr, then $8.50/hr after passing LPN boards. Was up to $12/hr when I left there after 3 years. Now an RN, making 25.25 in a Chicago suburb. Could be better, but could be worse, too. Bennies are decent so that helps.

16.40/hr base, in 2002 in MS, with my BSN and RN licensure, physical rehab facility

Making more than that now, but my current salary is probably laughable to most other nurses!:uhoh3:

When I graduated as an LPN in 1979 I started at $4.33/hr ! I thought I was rich! I graduated as an RN in 96 and probably started at around $13. Amazing enough when I graduated as a GN I took a 50 cent cut in pay until I passed my boards because I was at the top of the LPN scale!

1982 LPN $6.43/hr, 1992 RN $15.00/hr.

Started at $11/hr as new RN in 1985. Now making $49/hr as an NP, no shifts, no call. Believe me the MSN made a difference! (Top end RN's here make $36/hr)

10.30 as an LPN in 1999 in Tx. Now 22.00/hr in Baltimore

i made 15.00/hr in alabama in june of 2001...by the time i left the hospital in nov. 2002 i was up to 17.00..when i left alabama in 2005 i was making 20.50..i live in maryland now and make 31.25(cost of living is higher)

R.N 1978 5.47/hr..........that's a long time ago, also in Canadian funds!

Started at $5.85/hr in 1977 as a new grad. at a large teaching hospital in Nashville. My pay is now nearly 6X that & I am in the west.

$2.18 an hour at the ER at John Gaston in Memphis,TN in 1973. And that was with "hazard pay". I had just worked my way thru nursing school at $1.18 and hour so I thought I was stepping in tall cotton!Now I make over $100K/yr.All with an ADN.And I still look pretty good!
