Just a curiosity thread:
What was your first nursing salary and when did you command what I'm sure is going to be such high salaries? LOL.
Me: 13.18/hr as an RN in San Antonio in 1993.
Ironically, I left my LPN job outside of Baltimore MD to take that job, and I was making 14.50/hr as an LPN in LTC in MD at that time.
(My first healthcare job, as a CNA in 1991: 6.20/hr.)
~faith,
Timothy.
1965 $1.65 an hour as a CNA 40 cents above minimum wage
1966 $2.15 and hour as an LVN in a SNF Quit the first week, unethical.
1976 I cleared $256.00 every two weeks as an experienced LVN
1986 From $10.50 an hour LVN AIDS unit to $10.55 as an RN in critical care
Now at same job about $50.00 with night differential+ 1 1/2 after 8 hours
It is amazing how pay differs even now for us new nurses. I have been nursing for just under two years...havent hit my 2 year eval yet and am at 21.24 for BSN and 4/hr night plus extra 5/ hr weekends, plus 5/hr when we sign up extra when census is over our pt limit (better believe i sign up for that!!)
Wow, how far we have come!!
I know nurses making over 90,000 a year......one day, one day!!
I started as an RN, BSN at $16.55/hr in 1998, Chicago.
I haven't changed jobs at all since then, and I've averaged a $1.50/hr raise every year since then, so up over $10/hr now from where I started. After this summer's raise, I should be at about $29/hr.
That's just day shift base pay, though. I work 12-hour nights, so add $2.75 to all my PM hours, and $3.50 to all my night hours, plus $1.50/hr for the weekends.
:)
I'm a really new RN (started in August 2005) and started at $23.96/hour. Just received a VERY small raise and am now making $25/hour. We don't get a weekend differential at our facility and our night shift diff. is 10%.
ETA: What's really screwed up is there are RN's in my unit who have been there for 15-20 years and are making the same as my classmate who just started out as a new RN at $33/hr.

$8.50/hr CNA 2004
$15.00/hr LPN 2005
$21.50/hr RN 2006
If I worked nights, I could add another three dollars an hour to the RN pay.
