How much should a new nurse make per hr in LTC?

Does the interviewer tell me or ask me how much I want to make?

Do I ask? Last thing I want to do is be rude.

I feel like this is a dumb question but I don't know who else to ask.

This answer completely depends on where you live. Here's a link to an ongoing post of LPN/LVN salaries across the US. Keep in mind some of this posts are a few years old. You may also want to check places like salary.com to check out average salaries of LVNs in you area. I don't think it's rude to ask what the pay will be at an interview. It shouldn't be your first question, but after all you have to know to be able to compare. You are also interviewing the employer by asking important questions like how long will my orientation be or what will be my patient load, etc. Be assertive!

I also think that it is not rude to ask what your salary would be, but, don't let it be the first question. Let the interviewer direct the conversation, and after you receive the cue that they are finished, ask a few pertinent questions, like the questions kat7ap suggested, and then, ask about health benefits, if there is a union, etc. Begin with asking more questions about what benefits the patients and then, work it up to yourself.

The HR person told me what the salary would be when they made me the job offer. If you can ask your friends from school the range they are finding in their interviews etc. because it is important to know what to expect in your area so you get a fair rate. Good luck!

I live in Miami County, Ohio and I work at an assisted living facility and I get paid 16.50hr.

New nurses at a local rehab facility/ LTC in Indiana is $20/hr. Do research at salary.com and see what they say is the norm in your area.
