How was microbiology for you? Grade for you? Topics covered?

I just finished micro and got a B. Labs were fun/hard. Make sure everything goes smoothly - if you mess up on your unknown! How was the class itself for you? Hard//easy? I'm wondering if our topics covered were different. What did you cover in pathogens?

I loved loved loooooooved micro! I got an A and it was easy for me , but that's because I loved it so much.

I got a B, but am retaking for an A (and deeper understanding) in a 6 week summer course. I found the class information heavy, more so than A&P. My micro class covered a lot of pathogens and modes of treatment, it's very much tailored to the future nursing student.

Specializes in ICU.

Ah, that darn unknown project. I messed up on the very last step on mine and my professor ended up barely passing me on that project. I was way bummed. I really liked it. DNA transcription and transduction was hard for me. I got a B in the class.

I LOVED micro.. my very last test on immunities got me though because I had a final on Anatomy the day before so something had to give. I still got an A though. I was obsessed with the information in the class though so that helped some :)

I loved Micro and got an A...It was easy for me probably because the information covered was very interesting to me. The lab was actually fun too....

I liked micro. It was fun but the instructor was very monotone, probably didn't help that he was 80+! I got an A in the class but barely. I had a high B before our final and new I needed to ace it if I wanted an A for the corse. Studied my butt off and got it!

Micro was my FAVORITE! Made me even more excited about this profession. My prof has been a PA for about 30 years. I loved how he could make the class all about the diseases caused by those little microbes, meds that resolve most issues, etc. We had two unknown projects and that was a blast. Lab was fun also.

Im taking it this summer 6weeks. Do any of you have any advice please I'm nervous

Study EVERY day. Taking that class in a short period can be difficult. People do it and we all have our own habits. I recorded his lectures in class so i could spend my time listening rather than note taking. I would go home and upload the recording to my computer. Then, i would grab a cup of coffee and play back the lecture with the power point open and type out notes as he was speaking. Then i would listen to the lecture from that day in my sleep. I did that each day. When i went to bed, i took my recorder to bed with me, put in headphone and listened to it while i slept.

For the exams, i went through the syllabus and would make a study plan for each exam. If the exam covered chapters 1-5, i would do all the notes as described above and then make sure i mastered each chapter by a certain date.

Another thing i did was not only memorize terms, i would formulate essay questions to describe what and why it was important. This helped on more complex topics that i needed to recall on am exam. Memorizing micro and physio is not going to help you learn. You really need to be able to understand the concepts and how they relate to eachother. Some of it is memory, but if you can find a way to describe it, do it. You will remember more later.

I realize you only have 6 weeks for this course so memorization might be your only option depending on your schedule. I work full time and my micro class was M-Th from 6-8 pm right after work and i studied about 2 hours a night and weekends.

I did not find the class too difficult but i was highly interested in the subject so it was easier to grasp. Also, the nursing programs in the area go off of GPA so getting an A in my prereqs was my only option.

Good luck!

Micro was rather frustrating for me. I loved the lecture! My professor was young and peppy and always tried to find interesting video clips and articles that related to new and current info. I learned so much about the micro-world and really have gained a greater appreciation for modern medicine. Anyway, lab on the other hand was not that much fun...but I believe it was because of disorganization. The Unknowns weren't that hard at all...and our lab reports were very simple. There were around 30 students to 1 lab instructor and she was strung out thin. I received an A in the class but wish I could have taken it with a better lab instructor.

Micro was the last prereq I needed, and my favorite class that I have taken so far. It was so interesting, and I found the labs to be fun and intriguing! I got an A. My teacher did less A&P-style exams (regurgitation of memorized info) and more nursing-style (apply the information you should have learned). I found the first test very challenging because of that, but adjusted my studying style after it and did very well.
