I am also a single mom of 3 boys, ages 14, 5, and 3. I work partime time and I start the professional component of the nursing program in January. I think that we just have to find a strict schedule for studying and the kids. I don't know if I will still be able to work though. Try to stay in touch. I know it will be hard but we will make it through.

I am not a single mom, but my husband works 3rd shift as his full time job then works part time for a few hours mon-fri and has court every week, so he is gone most of the time. I have a 6 and a 2 yr old and am going into my 2nd semester of nursing school and I'll tell you it's not been the easiest thing! I agree to the strict schedule but with having kids you know that you cant plan everything, kids get sick, no school because of snow days, etc. This was the first time that my youngest had been in daycare and I'm pretty sure he caught everything that went around. He had pneumonia during skills check off and the stomach bug 3 times during finals, along with my oldest son. What a nightmare. With all of this said, it's not impossible. I have them on a strict schedule as much as possible, it's written down on the fridge so I know and they know what we are doing, dinner this time, bath this time, bed this time. I try to plan out easy meals and do all of my grocery shopping on the weekends. Since I dont have a lot of help it is nearly impossible for me to study when they are awake, so I dont until they go to bed at 8 and study until 12 or 1 depending on what I am studying for. Line up as much help as you can now, have back up plans for when your child/children get sick, make index cards of easy recipes. Also I do all the laundry on the weekends, even ironing on Sunday and I have a stackable bin that both their clothes, socks, undies, etc go into mon-fri. So theres no last minute running through the house trying to find something before clinicals. Above all make sure to set time aside just for them, my boys had a hard time adjusting at first but now they are doing much better. Good Luck!!

Good luck to you! I have a 4 yr old son and I start my 1st semester in January and I can't quit my full time job. So I think it'll be a struggle but not impossible to manage. I am very fortunate to have the full support of family and friends. My aunt has offered to watch my son during the week while I'm at work/school. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet, but I wouldn't be seeing much of him anyway if I tried to pick him up every night from the babysitters. Either way, I have to give it my best shot.
Hey! I was accepted on Dec 21st. I start in Jan. I am at Chicago State University in Chicago. I am a little scared, but I figure I have come this far; there is no turning back. I do have all of my children alone and I am still working. They say I should quit, but I am going to try and hold on for as long as I can. Waht area are you in? What schools have you looked at? Message me back.
Im in GA, near Atlnata. If I dont get into any schools here I will be trying Tennesee.
Def apply everywhere you can! I went to a community college close to Chattanooga and took all my prereqs then moved close to Knoxville and my current school would not accept any of my prereqs but 1, ughhh i was so mad, so I had to start over. But everything happens for a reason!! Keep your head up and work hard, dont let anyone tell you that you cant do it. I have to do this for my kids, Yes I have a husband to financially help but I want my kids to be proud of me and with this they get to see how hard I work. I'm sure you will do great, keep me updated on when/where you are accepted!!

I am a single mom of a 2 year old. I am going into my last semester of Nursing. I will graduate in May 2011:yeah:Lol sorry I'm excited. Let me tell you, when there's a will there's a way! If you want to be a nurse and understand the sacrifices and path it takes to get there, you are fully capable of doing it. It's hard work with or without kids. With kids, you just have to be more organized and conscientious of your time and studying. But believe me it is possible. I also have to say, I'm very appreciative of my family. They are extremely supportive and helpful. Good luck! With hard work, anything is possible...

Hang in there you can do it!! It might seems difficult at times, but it is all worth it in the end.
