How long did it take for some of you to find a job after you passed the state exam?

Published

I passed back in February, and so far I've put out tons of apps, online and in person, and have only gotten one interview. They selected someone else for that job, she had more experience. I've tried calling several places back, one place I've called twice and still haven't heard anything, I'm giving up on that place. I've said I will prn, part-time, any available shift just to get my foot in the door. I hate coming off sounding desperate, but it's getting really frustrating.

Where did you take your CNA course?

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, CCU, Alzheimers, Med-Surg.

What area of the country are you in? Do you know anybody that works for a nursing home? Did you apply to the place you did your clinicals at?

I live in Colorado near Littleton, which is a suburb of Denver. I've applied in both Littleton, Denver, Englewood, Centennial. The only problem I have is no car, so I do have to take a places location as far as bus availability into consideration. So I just don't apply to those places.

I don't know anyone that works in a nursing home, and the place I did my clinicals at won't work, it's way too far away.

I don't know maybe it's the way I'm filling out applications, or my resume needs work.

Sometimes it can simply be tough to find that job. with you not having your own transportation as well makes it harder because it takes some of your options away from you like Home Care. All I can say is just keep looking at maybe other places around by you that you have not applied to yet, Retirment Homes, Rehab places are also really good places to start out in. Also just keep applying at these places that you have been interviewed at. MAybe one of these days they will see just how determined you are, and hire you. I have heard of many people getting hired into a place that they had to put in 3 to 4 applications for a job, and then finally getting hired in. Just keep trying , and hopefully soon you will be given that opertunity.

Thanks! I haven't thought about rehab places.
