How long does it take to become a CNA after nursing foundations course...

Hello all,

I was just wondering how long does it take to become a CNA after your first semester of nursing school, or when you take a pass your nursing foundations course?

I'm going to be going that route and I read a thread here on all nurses and it said something like it took them a month two after they challeneged the exam, passed the exam and had to wait like weeks or so to take their physical exam and then had to wait another few weeks for the results. I could be mistaken by the timeline but I hope its not like that.

I really would like to be working in the field to gain experience so I could have a fighting chance to get a job after I graduate.

I was also wondering if the process from nursing foundation to CNA process varies from state to state like some other things do.

I am not positive but I think that once you complete the first term of nursing school you are eligible to become a nurse tech with a site approved by your school. I am not sure if that applies to LPN programs or just RN programs. I think the experience you would get as a nurse tech would be more varied and beneficial than that of a CNA. From what I've read, on all nurses of course, most techs only work one shift per week because they are full time students as well. I'm not sure if you need to pass the CNA sate exams to work as a tech or not.

I think asking on the board specific to your state would be a good idea since I would assume it varies from state to state. The requirements for CNA programs vary from state to state. I hope this points you in the right direction or at least yields more responses!
