How long to follow up after an interview?

I interviewed 7 days ago for an Nurse Practitioner position, and later that day I sent a thank-you email expressing my continued interest in the position. However, I received no reply back. It's been 1 week.

How long should I give them until I follow up again? The manager I interviewed with said it's not up to her completely to make a hiring decision; she forwards her notes from the interview to her "higher-ups" who will then decide. But she couldn't give me a definite answer as to when I would hear back. I don't want to seem too desperate nor too uninterested.

Rule of thumb is usually a week. Keep hitting it hard to interview and apply elsewhere as well. Even if this one pans out, its always good to have options.
