How likely is it for a BSN to find a job right after grad?

Is it possible to find a job before grad? That way I will ensure that I can start working right away?

The nursing program I plan to get into is longer than most - 3 years instead of 2. I don't want to be behind, because I would like to get into grad school asap. Also, my school offers an advanced track that's double the speed. I do not know if that would be a wise choice in terms of gaining enough experience.

That depends a LOT on the market where you're at. But even when I lived in a job-rich city, they weren't interested in starting orientation until I had that license in my hand. I got an offer, but it was conditional. I have an associate's, but the BSNs I started with had the same conditional offer.

There are hospitals that hire graduate nurses (finished school but no NCLEX yet) and nurse externs (not finished with school yet and not working in a true nursing role), but I'm not sure how plentiful those jobs are.

Whether or not you can work as a "graduate nurse" depends on the state. My state does not allow it and you cannot begin working until after you've passed NCLEX. I am a BSN prepared nurse- I had my job secured 2 months before I graduated but the offer was contingent upon passing NCLEX and securing a license as well as a background check. At that time (2007), 100% of my nursing class had jobs prior to graduation. Nursing was the only major in the entire university that had 100% job placement. That said, the economy and the job market has changed significantly since then. Current new grad nurses are not as successful in securing jobs.

Definitely depends on the market you're looking in. It took me nearly 7 months to get an offer in my market. Good luck.
