How hard is it to get into a Nursing School

Published

Hello,

I am a high school graduate in B.C. I was wondering how hard is it to get into the BScN program straight out of high school because that is what I was planning to do. My grades are not that bad I am an A student 90's to 88's. I applied to various colleges and universities. I am just scared that my grades will not be high enough and I will not get accepted because I heard they only accept a few students. Thank Yooouuu

Your grades are strong--what science and math courses have you taken, extracuricular + volunteer activities, etc. Most schools want a well rounded candidate.

I agree with previous post. Most schools require strong entrance exam scores, volunteer and/or extracurricular activities experience, and a strong essay.

I was like you. I'm a sophomore now in a BSN program. I applied right out of high school, and had similar grades (all As and Bs). An emphasis on sciences in high school, along with volunteer, extracurriculars, test scores, academic achievements, work experience . My test grades weren't fabulous, only ok, but I had great extracurriculars, good recommendation letters, and a kick butt essay!

I applied to seven schools, and was accepted into the nursing program at five of them, including three very highly regarded and selective programs (one school I was accepted to only admits 50 into their nursing program!!). The other two schools were reach schools, so I wasn't surprised.

Best of luck, I'm sure you'll be accepted [emoji4]

I have completed my Chemistry 11 with a 90, Pre Calculus 11 with a 88, and Biology 11 with a 88, I am a bit weak with English and ended up with 87 in grade 11. I am currently taking Pre Calculus 12 (which I am getting a B right now, sadly), Bio 12, and Chemistry 12, and English 12. With Volunteer experience I had volunteer a lot with children, and I also do tutorials at my school with Math and science. I am in 6 clubs at my school involving with different things. I haven't actually volunteered with the hospital though

Canadian schools often go by grades only, which is both a blessing and a curse.

Ya I have noticed that too, all they ask for is a transcript.

Agree, Canadian BScN programs mostly only go by high school grades. I have only heard about RPN programs requiring an entrance exam, at least in my area. There is more space for students direct from high school then there are for mature students, at least at the University I attended. Your grades are high. My advice would be too look at the cut off average for the schools you applied to. If they aren't posted, try calling the admissions adviser. If your averages are higher then the cut off, then at least you may feel a little less anxious.

Good luck to you!
