I went to UIC my freshman year only to find out that I probably wouldn't get into their nursing program. I have friends there who are very smart and are involved with community work, yet they did not get in. From what I heard, they accept around 90 out of 700 into the program. My chances there are very slim, so I decided to apply to NIU.
My current GPA is 3.75. Living in the city was very exciting, but my grades suffered. I had a C in both my Chemistry and Biology classes as well as Statistics and Human Nutrition due to a loss in my family at the time. However, my grades now are much better- all A's and a B in Anatomy I. I made the decision to go to a community college to finish my prereqs.
I just want to know if I even have a chance in getting in? I'm so worried, I don't know where else I would go that is convenient for my parents and me. This process of getting into nursing schools would be so much easier if I had someone going through the same thing. That is why I'm here. Please help with any advice or whatever, thanks!
Also, where else did you all apply to that it is in the same tuition range as NIU?

Hey there,
I can tell you that UIC is very hard to get into, NIU you have a chance, i know they have 1000 applicants and they pick about 120 for fall and 120 for spring. It is based off your GPA and what you get on the reading test. They usually pick the people with higher gpa to start in fall, and lower in spring. Your gpa is good, i had about the same gpa.
