How is GPA Figured?

Published

I plan on applying to a BSN program. Do you know if they count only the nursing pre-reqs or ALL the classes combined? I am asking because I have a 4.0 in my nursing pre-reqs but I have a B in another course I took over the summer.

Depends on the school, but prereq GPA is what is evaluated most often from what I have seen. Even though this may be the case, they generally require that you have an overall GPA above 3.0 to apply (and a few programs I have seen even go down as far as 2.75). However, as you know lately applicant pools have been driving these averages pretty high. Not unusual to see a class with prereq and overall GPAs well over 3.5 these days.

And I have read of programs where applicants with 4.0 averages across the board were rejected, but that does not mean that the one B you have will prevent you from being admitted to the program you desire to attend. Good luck.
