How far does everyone commute to work?

I am interviewing soon with a teaching hospital approx. 60 miles from my home. I've never worked at a teaching hospital and feel this would be a good opportunity to increase my skill level and knowledge base. This is the closest teaching facility to where I live. With the price of gas and hour and a half drive I wonder if it is a good idea to consider working there. How far does everyone commute to work? Anyone drive a considerable distance? What are the pro's and con's. Thanks!

In this day and age, I would seriously reconsider driving that far to work. Gas prices will eat into your take-home, and it is a long commute home after work. (especially if you work nights.)

I commute 55 miles by train each way to work. Had I done it all over again, I'd choose a hospital closer to home.

I used to drive to work, and it cost me almost $800/month in gas/tolls/parking. I would also fall asleep at several stoplights on the way home.

45 miles here... each way.

30 miles each way. I used to go 50 miles each way. I didn't think it was so bad, but I sure did get tired driving home in the am!

I actually like my 30 mile commute. It gives me 30 minutes of peace and quiet before and after work.

12 miles each way for one job and 85 miles each way for my other job. It simply is not safe to anticipate driving that far on a regular basis. I have several friends that have done so and fallen asleep at the wheel.

Fortunately no bad injuries to anyone yet. Can you move closer?

Also with the price of gas so unstable right now you could be getting yourself in a real pickle.

40 miles round trip for me. I also take the bus a couple of days a week, so that helps.

65 miles each way. 65-70 min on a good day.

Looking for a carpool

I am starting a job closer to home...45 miles each way, was 75...even now I am wondering if I made the right choice. My truck gets 18 - 20 mpg, ...gas is not going down, however....If I had the choice of the local hospital or a good teaching hospital, even I would bite the bullet, work OT and take it, but that is me, I am just a NS, what do I know :)

Relocation isn't an option at this point. I do have the possiblity of a PRN position 30 miles one way. It's a straight shot from my house and all highway driving. It's a small rural hospital as opposed to the bigger teaching hospital farther away. I do plan on interviewing at the teaching hospital but have already sort of made my mind up that the drive is probably not worth it. My stepdaughter works at the teaching hospital as an RT and lives very near me so maybe there is a chance we could carpool at some point. She is working nights but I really want days if available, so we'll see. Thanks for the input.:thankya:

I work from home. Can't imagine having to pay for gas to get to work now.

I just took a job thats 30 miles one way...takes about 45-50 minutes. The drive stinks and i have like 5 hospitals that are closer...but I wanted to work in the ICU.

12 miles one way- no traffic, no parking fees. I used to commute 40 miles each way thru heavy traffic- it wasn't fun.
