How far out can you get assignments??

Published

Hi, I am just wondering how far out you can sign traveling contracts. I have heard conflicting information. Are most of them last minute positions? Or is it possible to sign a contract that starts say 3 months out? If so is it common to do this and secure employment this far in advance? Thanks for the help.

For the last couple years it has been pretty short notice, around 2-3 weeks prior to start date. Now, it seems to be around 6-7 weeks. The only time that I've seen 2-3 months in advance is for seasonal jobs, such as Florida or Arizona, when the hospitals can predict an increase in census. But, I've only been at this for 2.5 years.

I concur with the previous post regarding 3-month-out contracts. On my most recent assignment, I signed my contract 5 weeks out.........

The only times I have gotten contracts further out than about 6 weeks were at hospitals with an anticipated need (nurses with plans for maternity leave) where I had done previous contracts. In these cases they called me directly to see if I would be available.

I have also seen contract jobs posted on websites in ski resort town type of areas, like stated above for florida/arizona. They post them 3-6 months out for winter staffing full time slots. They have a 4-6 month winter season to staff for. I will most likely end up in one of these places next winter.
