I am writing a paper for Ethics and Laws of Nursing class. I am wondering how EMTALA affects NPs in the Emergency Department and more specifically if there is a section of the law that specifically describes what role an NP can play in the ED as far as medical screening for EMTALA goes? 0 Likes

An RN can, I think in some states if they meet a special training, certification, or whatever. I do not know what it is called. However, an Huge liability issues can ensue. Unless an RN is experienced, and I mean exceptionally so, who in there right mind would take on that responsibility? 0 Likes
