HI ALL,
I start my ADN program on Jan. 9th (06.) I already have a BA degree, so I'm used to college classes, etc. Here is my schedule
Monday: Nursing 110, Nursing 120, Nursing skills lab and A&P I lab (classes from 8 AM- 4:30 PM
Tuesday: Chem I, and A&P (classes from 9 AM- 2:30 PM)
Wednesday: Nursing 110, Nursing 120 and Chem I lab. (classes from 8 AM- 4 PM.)
Thurday: Algebra (classes from 9 AM- 11:30 AM)
Friday: Clinicals from 7 AM- 2 PM
Fortunatly, my husband and I have no children and I am able to work part time (on my own time from home....one evening in the office per week.)
Regardless, I know that the classes will be tough and am wondering if any of you have a similar class load? (17 credit hours total!)
Thanks!!!

That looks like a common amount of credit hours. Our program requires 2 chemistry courses as prerequisites to entering the program, and also as a prereq for Human Anatomy and Physiology I. I think the math is a prereq as well for chemistry. Many students will complete a good deal of the non-nursing classes prior to entering the program at my school. It just makes things more manageable. That's not to say that it can't be done the traditional way.
Your first quarter will be overwhelming in the fact of skills that require practice and return demonstrations, and the amount of coursework covered in a short period of time. Just get yourself well organized and stick to it, you will be fine. Be sure to study a bit each day as to not get behind.
Good luck!

I start Jan 09, 2006 too
Like you am married, no children and a part-time job from home
I took all my pre-req's already. The only one left is Microbiology, but was accepted conditionally based on my grades and high GPA.
I will be taking:
Micro Wed 5:30-8:30 pm (Lecture) Sat 8:00-11:00 (Lab)
Nursing 100 Mon: (Lecture and Lab) 6:00-9:00 pm
Clinical: Thurs: 7:00-3:00
After this, it will be just nursing courses by itself and done.
Personally, I don't try to overload anymore especially with the sciences. At first, I was taking 6 courses at a time and even though I managed A's in all, it was draining. I did it to be able to take my science courses along with 1 other class at most. It has been working out so far.
Best wishes to you. :)

I start nursing classes on Jan. 9. I just finished my last "other" classes today. I'll only have the actual nursing core classes to take.
Mon - skills lab 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Tues - clinical 7:00am - 3:00pm
Wed - clinical 7:00am - 3:00pm
Thurs - lecture 8:00am - 11:00am
I'm in an ADN program, but plan to continue on to the BSN. I will need 2 semesters of a language, US Gov't and another humanities class for the BSN. I'll have 2 summers that I can take them in.
I am married with 3 very busy kids and I don't think I could handle more than that at one time.
