How can I get into a level 1 Trauma ER or OR

Published

What up guys! Hopefully someone can help me. I have been a scrub tech for 6 years and I want to know if anyone has any advice on getting a nurse job at a level 1 trauma ER/OR dept? I just graduated from nursing school.

Thanks,

Steve

I got my first hospital job in level 1 trauma (as a LPN at the time, no less). You're more likely to get hired in trauma if you are a type A person, and show real interest in the specialty. I think you'd probably fit the bill if you've already lasted in the OR for 6 years. ;)

Have you applied yet?

Here in Tampa the L1 Trauma ER (TGH) doesn't typically hire new grads directly, unless they precepted in the ER/have other special circumstances, but they have a critical care rotation program in which you can rotate through various ICUs and stop in the ER if you wish. It's a very competitive job to get, however. They don't currently have any open OR positions and I'm not sure what experience they require, but you can always call HR and find out.

may i ask what type of jobs do the level 1 trauma nurse have to do & what's the difference with ER? thanks alot.
