How about Asian Males?

Published

Hello all:

I immigrated here 5 years ago. I am an Asian male, middle 30's, healthy, fluent in English with a slight accent. I am thinking about going back to school and get a RN license. It is scary that there are so many people are new grads and couldn't find work, while there are even more schools and institutions pumping out new grads due to the economy and the so-called nurse shortage. Okay, could you guys tell me how the job market really is, and is it even tougher for an Asian male to find a nursing position after graduation? Also, is it a good career for a first-generation immigrant in the US.

Those should not be factors in hiring, as that would be discriminatory. If you want to be a nurse, go for it. If you're looking for a sure thing or a "recession-proof job," such as nursing was considered for so long, then you could be in for disappointment. Hopefully by the time you'd finish, the market would be improved.

Thank you, LunahRN.
