Houston Nurse Residency Winter/Spring 2024

Published

Hi everyone! I will be graduating with my BSN this semester and I'm applying for residencies in the Houston area. I already applied to Houston Methodist but wanted to hear about other programs that might be interesting. Best of luck!

Got an email from Methodist today and they are not extending an offer. I decided to consider this entire process with finding a job in Houston and make the decision to pursue a nursing career in my home state. It's crazy how I told my preceptor today that I was considering working at the hospital I am currently precepting at and was offered a job 3 hours later by the manager. Good luck to everyone and I'm praying you all find yourselves where you are meant to be!

Congratss! Thank you! Good luck on your career!

Question, has anyone in the group waited out and re applied to the next cohort if you didn't get in where you would have liked to? Did you do anything in the mean time? I'm new to the area and just curious. Feel free to private message me if it's too personal to put in the chat. ☺️

Yeah I did. The first time I got a match day interview for children's memorial hermann but didn't get the job. TCH was the last to reach out and asked if I wanted my last choice on the survey. This time I applied to the same two and have gotten no interviews. However I decided to apply to HCA and have talked with a recruiter ( they said they're putting me on the list of interested candidates once they find out start dates and number of openings). Word of advice from when I attended the Harris Health webinar for last cohort. "These hospitals only have max like 5 openings for units and usually have a lot less. However they interviewing hundreds". I think the best option is to consider a unit you may not like at the hospital you want and maybe work your way up. Also consider a job at a hospital you wouldn't usually consider (like I with HCA) or do something outside the hospital and gain experience because it's really hard to get into these residencies especially if you don't have connections

Has anyone talked with a recruiter from the woman's hospital or gotten an interview?

Gotcha, thank you for responding. That is kind of what I was figuring. I did also apply to HCA. I haven't heard back yet though, I was put on the list as well, so fingers crossed.

I'm lowkey considering hca because I don't really want to work medsurg even if it's memorial hermann.... ?

Is anyone familiar with TCH onboarding process after you got an offer? or does the onboarding process start on your hire date?

has anyone applied to HCA and got contacted ? I applied to 5 different locations and haven't heard back at all. I emailed the recruiter too

I've had them send me screening questions on my interests and then they say im under consideration but havent heard back. I remember early September when I first applied, she was actually pretty responsive & sent me a list of all the units open vs waitlists because they had an in person hiring event. I just emailed her again last night

I remember I applied early September and talked to a recruiter. she told me they were still setting up dates for the Spring cohort and that she would call me when its done. I saw that they have hiring events going on so im debating if I should just go to one
