10 hour shifts

Hi guys, does anyone worked 10 hour shifts? I am tempted to do 4 x10s for a midshift. But then I realized it might feel like I am working 4 12 hours! haha Anyone worked 10s before who can share their experience?

Thank you!

I would give it a try! Your paycheck will also be bigger with the extra 8 hours per pay period - it adds up! I would say that as long as you can usually do four in a row without getting too crispy, it might be a good fit.

I did 4 10s but it was in the Cath lab. I hated it. It quickly became 12 hour shifts because we all know what happens at the end of your shift. The extra money was nice, but not worth it to me.

Our facility used to have a 36 hr midshift position (Monday -Thursday, 10a-7p, and a 7p-4a).

While I did not do it on a full time basis, I filled in on occasion, and it seemed to fly by. Not sure how doing it on a regular basis would be.

Also, anytime I work mid-shift, I would always start off telling the charge that I get off at XX:00, and I will be leaving at that time, so unless they want to take those patients, plan for it. If you don't, you will end up working over, which is not acceptable. They don't expect a regular day/night shift person to stay over to take care of the patients till they are gone, why do they expect it of mid-shifters?

After dumping the patients on the charge a few times, they will learn.

I LOVED my four 10s. It didn't feel any longer than 8s and heaps shorter than 12s. 10s maybe my favorite shift ever.

Thanks everyone for responding. I thought I'll update you guys. I ended up not signing up with them. I applied for a nigh shift but they can only offer me variable shift. I can't do variable. It's gonna drive my sleeping pattern crazy. It's already insane as it is now haha
