Hospital Loan Repayment Program

Hi I am in my first semester of my senior year in Nursing school. It is hard and very discouraging at times, but I know God is with me. I just have a question about paying my loans back once I graduate. Once I graduate, I do not know where I want to work. I attend a school in Louisiana ( Grambling State University) and I would like to work at a place, prefer a hospital, that will payback my student loans, while I am working. I do not want to stay in the south, but if I have to I will. I am from Connecticut, but right now I live in North Carolina. As of right now there are only 2 places in Louisiana that will payback you student loans if you work for then, LSU and the VA in Shreveport. I have looked online at some hospitals in other states, but I really didnt find any information. The states that I am interested in going to are Connecticut, Texas, Ohio, Indiana,Washington DC, Mississippi and Alabama. If anyone knows of hospitals in these states that pays back your student loans once you graduate, please list them and please resond to this topic. I would greatly appreciate it.

Generally, hospitals do not retroactively reimburse student loans. However, there are some that reimburse tuition for current employees who meet certain criteria. The way mine works is that they will reimburse 90% of tuition up to $5,000 under the following conditions: the employee has worked at the facility for at least 6 months, is at least a 0.5 FTE (works 20hrs/week), receives a grade of B or better, and will work for the facility for a minimum of 1 year after the last reimbursement payment. Termination of employment before that one year's obligation is up requires the student to reimburse the hospital 100% of what they have received.

Never heard of a hospital that pays back your student loans from before you worked there...all the ones I've see will reimburse you for tuition once you've worked there for a certain number of months, but only anything accrued from that oohing forward.

Check out HRSA, same idea, but through the government (h&hs) rather than through a hospital.

Hey, I live in Louisiana and attend Louisiana Tech.....I have heard that St. Francis in Monroe offers loan repayment(but that may be more of a tuition reimbursement type situation for future education).

I doubt that there are many hospitals out there that offer these types of programs. I live in New England and would be VERY surprised to find any hospital in Connecticut that offers to pay back loans that the student has already acquired. I still have about $50k in debt and I graduated over 5 years ago. No employer has given me a cent above my salary for my loan repayment. I don't expect that either, though.
