I am working in our Palliative Care/Hospice Unit at our hospital.

I am with the most incredible set of nurses!

I've never met nurses like these. They are all the most loving and compassionate nurses I know.

We have a 14 bed unit, and occasionally get medical overflow, but mostly it is hospice or palliative care.

I'd never been exposed to Hospice nursing till school, and liked my clinical with Home Health with a Hospice Visiting Nurse so much I did my preceptorship with her. Then I took the job on the unit. Best decision I ever made.

Anyhow, I have learned so much, mostly bedside nursing, and am continuing to soak up as much as I can.

Our boss is the best! She works the floor often enough to know what is going on out here, and she keeps up with how everyone is doing on a daily basis.

Working here is a privilege for me.

I work on a Medical/Oncology floor that is sprinkled with hospice patients. I love hospice patients and oncology pts. There is something about these people who are facing their own mortality and how they deal with it on a daily basis. I also love caring for families in the end days. I wish there was an exclusive hospice unit where I work because I would be on it in a heartbeat.
