I took my first practice test for transitions and did terrible!! I just wanted to see what it would be like ans where I need help studying. It's such boring material it's hard to get into it! What is concidered a "passing" grade on these exams anyways? a 75%? I will be hitting the books hard for the next 3 weeks!! I'll do practice test B the week before my actual exam and see if I am ready. If I can get at leat an 80 I'll feel ready. Right now I feel LOST!! :uhoh3:

I'm sure I will do much better with the next nursing exam. I did some of the paper chapter quizzes for health safety and passed without even reading the chapters! Go figure!

I usually got in the 70s or 80s on the practice exams, and got A's on most of the actual exams. You won't get an overall percentage on your exam -- just a letter grade.

I never got higher than the low 70's and got A's and B's. I think for NC 5 I got high 50's and low 60's and ended up with an A. Just keep studying!!

Thanks everyone! It was just discouraging! On at least 5 questions I was going to pick "the correct" answer, but changed it. :crying2: I only got a 60!! I'm trying to get my hands on some college network guides on Ebay. They are set up great, but who wants to pay all that cash?? Not me! I will keep reading and going over the SG 101 practice tests/answers. My exam isn't until mid Feb, so I have some time still.

Hi,

I took health safety today (my first theory exam) and passed. Don't just rely on the practice test. For health safety it was a GREAT help going through the rationales, but would not have been enough to make me pass. I borrowed my fundamentals book, which is from last years content guide, and just correlated the chapters to the current content guide and went line by line. I also think the study guides I purchased (studygroup101) were a tremendous asset, although not everyone likes them.

I'm leaving transitions for last!

Good Luck!

I would stick to the textbooks.........even if they're older editions. I used a Chancellor module once and failed an exam. I later realized that the Chancellor module was missing at least 5 or 6 of the musculoskeletal portion that was on the exam. Something I also completely overlooked in the study guide. Pay attention to the specific examples in parenthesis. Also, have you gotten on the EPN and chatted with others who are taking this exam?

Thanks so much! I did DL study guide 101 and it is a help, but it's a lot of "flashcared" like set up of info. I did get the recomended text and am reading it page by page and highlighting things outlines in the study guide from EC. It's just a lot of boring information and memorization of people and theories. I was told by my advisor to take it first as it will be a great foundation for the other exams. Not sure why...it's all nurisng law and history, as well as nursing orginizations. I wonder if I can switch my test to Health safety?? I have already paid and booked transitions. I'll call EC and see.

Thanks to all of you!! I don't know what I would do without your words of wisdom!!!:D

Hi,

As far as I know you can switch the exam from one to another as long as it is within a reasonable time frame to the exam. I personally want to leave the dry stuff for last!.

But since you have already started studying for transitions, why switch in the middle? I'd get it over with.

The practice exams are SO much harder then the actual exams!! I have never gotten better then a 72 or 75 on them and I've gotten 4 A's and 1 B so far. Just study every question and the answers (plus the explanation for the wrong answers). Also go through the content guide and make sure you know all the terms listed in there. Half the battle is getting used to the way they word the questions. Once you figure that out, you'll do great on the exams!

Be careful with switching answers! Now you know what to expect, so you have a better idea how to go about studying. Good luck. After this one is behind you it will get better as far as having important material to cover. You will be more inclined to "get into it".
