Home health RN job possible w/ only NICU & psych exp?

I have 2 years nursing exp (less than a year in NICU & over a year in psych). I'm debating whether to try home health RN positions as they seem to have alot of pros for mom RNs. My question is whether I should take a RN refresher course to refresh my adult nursing skills ( as most HH jobs seem to be for adult population) or just drag out the nursing books and study them. I have never felt confident in my adult assessment skills and have never worked med-surg.

Have you considered psych home health? I don't have any personal experience with it, but I know there are some jobs out there, and agencies that are specifically looking for nurses with psych experience.

you could look for pediatric home health, I was able to get a job doing that as a new grad

Yes, go for home health. I had 3 yrs L&D mostly High Risk at teaching hospital... I did great and still doing it 20 yrs later. You went to school. things will come back to you. Skills you never learned they will teach you. You can check into psych HH but ti is tough, big requirements by the states, so I would try HH first make sure I like it then go into psych if qualified.

No need for refresher course, unless you do not remember how to do assessments.

I started home health after only one year in oncology. My advice is to go with a larger home health company where you will have ample opportunity to train, and not be thrown out there on your own because they're short staffed. Tell whomever you interview with that you're a bit rusty, and ask for a good preceptor. A really good manager will take the time to foster your skills and your love for a very different kind of nursing. Give it at least six months to decide if you love it or hate it, home health isn't for everyone. But when I was a single mom of four small children, it was the perfect job!
