I'm a new RN and i was offered a job in home health for a newly diagnosed toddler with type 1 diabetes. it would be glucose monitoring, med admin, insulin admin, etc as well as alot of teaching and reinforcement to the parents and nanny. it would be for a few weeks, possibly moving in with the family as well.

what is a reasonable pay for this? should it be by the hour, the day, week?

Thanx!

Would this be private duty working for the client, or through an agency? You could expect a better wage if you are being paid by the private party. The agency will take their cut from the reimbursement they receive from the insurance company or from the private party. Also, it would depend upon the area of the country where you are living and what is the going rate for private duty in your area. This can range anywhere from a low of $20 an hour up to $45 an hour, depending upon what the family is willing to pay and what you are willing to accept. You negotiate this rate at the time you draw up the contract with the client. If you will be working through an agency, they will inform you what they intend to pay you. Ask around and look at the employment websites for your area to try to get some ballpark figures for your area.

Private duty. I will be speaking with the mother tonight to negotiate pay. the average in the hospital connected to my school is $24/hr. I spoke to the RN who sent me the job and she believes 900-1000$ per week sounds fair. the area would be in the mountains an hour north of NYC.
