After working in the hospital ICU's for 2 years, I am ready for a change! Ive been researching HH nursing and reading a lot on this forum, and I feel this will be a good fit for me!

Plus the rates Ive been offered for the pay per visit schedule are going to come out much better than my pay in the hospital (where I HAD to work nights and frequent weekends).

THANKS to all for your info and involvement on this site.

Wish me luck!

Congrats! I hope it goes well for you. Just keep in mind it takes months to truly learn all about OASIS and feel comfortable with it- so while it may seem overwhelming at first it DOES get easier! It is an entirely different pace than what you're used to...but while learning the ropes of HH you may still feel frazzled. Remember that you will develop your own routine that will work best for you. I find that starting early and seeing one patient after the other works best for me...I am usually home by 2 or so and finish any charting from home. But atleast I am home - not staying over an extra hour to finish up the charting! So take it one day at a time and enjoy your refreshing new start in nursing. And remember to ask LOTS of questions because HH has it's own way of doing things ( versus the way the hospital does). You will love the autonomy! Ok - I'm done rambling... while there is no such thing as a perfect job I truly love HH (can't you tell?) Keep us posted on how it goes

Congrats!! You'll love it! I'm so glad I made the switch a few months ago. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.

Good luck!:nurse:

I agree with what you said. "They" say that "Home Healthcare is Nursings best kept secret". Eventhough I'm not exactly sure that "They" mean by that (anyone can let me know for sure), I do like the autonomy and feeling REALLY appreciated. It took me awhile to feel like I was actually organized, which requires me to do alot of paperwork and preparation at home. This can be time consuming, but still is SO much better than working in a hospital or LTC nursing which I did for 30+ years before choosing to do HHC. I did (and still do) ask many questions, but if you have a boss like mine, they don't ever mind taking time to explain how it's done in HHC, which IS often different than other places. The teamwork is different, often working independently, however this is SO much better than the arguing and complaining done in other types of Nursing. Keep up the good work and this forum really DOES serve a purpose and provides good support for both the experienced and non-experienced.
