home health - I have a problem

Published

I have a problem ..I am a home health nurse and feel like I'm a jester the parent of a adult with a vent gtube and totally non weight bearing and incontinent not only expect all of his laundry and theirs to be done ..They expect me to dance, sing clap my hands and provide 12hr of none stop stimuli to the patient .The I do sweeping and mopping daily . The family complains non-stop about anything. I beginning to hate my job. It's a high paying case and my agency is practically refusing to give me another clients because they can't find another weekend nurse .And the worse part the patient is unresponsive. I feel it just crazy to be acting like I'm entertaining the king..Has anyone else had this kind of experience and can I deal with it without quitting..

Time for a case review. There's many ways that stimuli can be introduced. A radio, music, even a book on tape.

The family needs to know that the only laundry that you do is the patients, and the only space you clean is the patients.

If you do not have the support of your agency, I would again bring to them that the case is not typical. What does the week day person say about how their week goes?

There needs to be a better plan in place. The family needs to be informed as to what constitutes "stimuli"
