Hi everyone! I received my license back in December and have been working with a fantastic home healthcare company since then. I now have a whole 2 months experience! I truly love my job - the pay is small and I am not getting too many hours but I am quite happy. My question is: I would love to move on to an assisted living facility/rehab since I am truly interested in the rehab side. I understand that some facilities move CNA's into a restorative aide job - how do I accomplish this? The experience I am getting with home health is quite different from working in a facility, I know. Can anyone advise me which "avenue" to take....I am happy to even have a job!!!! :) I feel I need to just find the right facility and see if they will hire with home health experience...thanks eveyone!

Being a home health aide is usually a lot less stressful then working in an assisted living facility. I have worked in both and prefer the home health just because you get to know your patients and the patients seem to be more relaxed in there own home. I did like being a med tech in the assisted living facility because there were different challenges that we had to deal with.

They'll most likely hire you and train you, just be ready for a very different change of pace. It can't always be as personal as home health is, but everyone gets attached to some residents :)

I haven't worked home health yet, but I have worked in both assisted living & LTC. Assisted living is a bit more laid back than LTC & I do feel that you get more interaction with your residents too. I think you will do fine! Several of my coworkers at my assisted living job were private duty aides in our building first. Good luck!
Thanks so much, everyone! This advice is wonderful and I appreciate it very much.:yeah:The more, the better...there are so many of you out there with such experience...I love hearing from you all! Believe me, I am learning...and listening...thanks again!

I work in a rehab facility. It is very different rythme of work and also a different mentality. Common sense knee and hip replacements happen most often with the elderly. Rehab is also incljudes elderly getting over illnesses. Some go home, some don't. It isn't all wine and roses.
