HIV/AIDS, Infectious Diseases Nursing!

Published

Hello, I'm new here! I am a pre-nursing student and need some advice on where to go to nursing school! I live in California and like everywhere else, getting into a nursing program is VERY competitive! Luckily I have the option to go out of state if needed..

I definantly want to pursue a career as a travel nurse, and work within the HIV/AIDS & infectious diseases community! The bigger Question is, where to go to nursing at? My first pick is Boston!!

I welcome ANY advice from anyone with ideas! Thanks in advance!! I only have one more A & P class to finish!!!

hi, there. as a "pre-nursing" student, you've got a loooong way to go, and you may very well discover that some other kind of nursing grabs your attention along the way. you won't be able to work as a travel nurse until you have worked awhile as an rn, because travelers are expected to be able to hit the ground running in a strange place, and no new grad can do that.

there are some great nursing schools in boston; best nowadays are northeastern (5-year co-op program-- you come out with excellent practical experience and contacts to go with your bachelor's), boston college, umass, simmons college, and curry college. apply to all of them-- why not, that's why there's a common app, after all-- and good luck!

I'm curious....why Boston?

@ Grn Tea, thanks for the reply! YES, I know I have a looooooooong way to go!! But, I'm a go getter and I've

known for a very long time what I want to do with nursing!! I've always had a passion for working within the HIV/AIDS

community since the mid 90's, and that passion has never gone away! Anyway's, I realize i won't be able to travel as a nurse until I gain some valuable working experiance!! Thank you sooo much for listing the school's in Boston, I appreciate that alot:)

@ Esme12, I lived in Califorina almost all my life, and it's time to experiance a new place and culture! I've always been

drawn to Boston and so that's where I feel I need to be!

unquestionably, i commend you for the passion you display on becoming an infectious disease nurse. undoubtedly, it is crucial for more future nurses to specialized in this field. having said that, the role of a infectious disease includes triaging hiv patients, treating and assessing pt.s in need of palliative or symptomatic care. in addition, as an infectious/disease nurse one has to supervise ancillary staff, refilling arv medications for stable and adherent patients. moreover, providing ongoing assessment counseling plus serving as an hiv person for the facility or staff. furthermore, two of my dearest friends are specialized in hiv/aids facility, and they love their job, for which i admire their profound dedication. wishing you the very best in all of your future endeavors...aloha~

@ gitanorn , aloha & mahalo nui loa for your sweet comment! it's amazing to know that there are nurses

that are currently in the hiv/aids & infectious diseases nursing field! i am soooo inspired by that and it's great to know that your friends love their job! this gives me soooo much hope! i just want to make a differance for those impacted by hiv/aids and diseases people may not be educated about! i can't wait:) thanks for sharing youe story!!

aloha!
