Hispanic Student Failed Nclex 1st time.

Published

Hello,

I am here to vent since I moved from Puerto Rico to Las vegas and have nobody to vent with that can understand my situation. I recently took the NCLEX-RN and failed. I feel really devastated and wanting to give up (which I know i shouldn't give up) but that's the feeling i have right now. I graduated from Puerto Rico and felt like the school didn't teached me as much as I needed so everything I learned recently is because I knew i was very behind and started hitting the books. I purchased the kaplan prep course which was very expensive and even though it helped me with strategies, I didn't quite liked the question trainers etc. Two weeks ago I purchased Uworld which I liked a lot. Im not sure if its a language barrier or lack of knowledge what is keeping me from passing but I would really appreciate someone to give me advice on any other course prep or books that I can use for this time. Please I'm just seeking guidance and advice, no rude comments please. Thank you.

Hey, based on your written communications, you're more literate than many of us native-born folks. There are also a lot of substandard schools right here in the US, so you're in good company.

No rude comments - just want to wish you good luck. You can do this!

Did, or do you, have test anxiety? Many native born and bred USA nurses have failed NCLEX. Don't give up, don't dispare. We need bilingual nurses!

I really appreciate your support guys. I am feeling miserable in a time like this so reading your advice makes me feel better than before.

Well to be honest that day I was just in blanck not quite sure if it was test anxiety. But most of the questions where really confusing and some diseases i didnt know about. So im not sure if is my lack of content knowledge or what it was. I just need to change my strategy I guess, maybe look for a good prep course or something :/. Thank you for being so kind and giving me hopes! have a nice day!

Thank you very much. Hopefully next time I pass God willing! Have a nice day!

Your thread's been moved to the NCLEX forum for more feedback.

You might do well with using UWorld this time around! I know that helped me for sure, especially with the select all that apply questions. I think the most important part is learning how to tease out the correct answer, even if you are unsure of the concept. For example, I had a bunch of NCLEX questions about diseases/procedures I had no idea on...but somehow I must have picked enough right answers to pass.

Don't feel bad about this, just a small setback. I really do think UWorld is the way to go, and I think most people on this forum would agree, based on all of the threads I read before I tested. You can do this!

Hi!!!,, Thank you for the advice i appreciate it. Yes i will stick with Uworld i really like the rationales helps me understand better. I will try again, it is just too much to handle at first but at least all of you guys have been really nice and gave me a boost of motivation to keep going. I will try the trick that helped you for sure. Thank you ;)

Kaplan has seem to be the reason most people fail due to their vague rationales. Uworld is very awesome with detailed rationales and content important for NCLEX. Just have confidence you WILL pass and read every rationale; even the ones you get right.

Hi! I haven't graduated yet but about a year ago I joined the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN). Perhaps look into joining or maybe attending a local meeting if there is one. The association is very big on mentoring and you might find someone to help or at the very least vent to (in Spanish or English)

Buena suerte!

Thank you very much ladies! I really appreciate the help I will definitely look into the Hispanic Nurses Association! Thanks again girls!!!!
