I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?

Congrats starry! I know this must be so exciting. ..

Thanks! I'm still in disbelief. And the outpouring of support from coworkers, family, and friends is so humbling.

The first semester is 1,050$ and 215$ for lab fees. The book package first semester is like 800$ and before the semester starts u have to get shots and a physical, which if u don't have health insurance. This may be pricey. U can always check county clinics for price difference. I ended up taking a gov student loan out just for this semester. It's just to expensive . Buying scrubs, shoes, and Stethoscope. So the program is 10 credit for the first semester. Gov with only give u full amount if enrolled full time. 10 credits is not full time. So this is Y I am taking an easy class like speech. To match my 12 credit minimum needed. I will get 2,700 that semester in pell grant money. This will cover tuition and and my books. Give or take about 150$.

Wait! Are you getting the pell grant for this semester or spring when nursing starts? Because I just talked to financial office and they said the nursing program does not offer pell grant but just federal loans. Also, now that I think about it how much do you think the shot will cost because I don't have insurance :(

If you qualify for a pell grant (I have fafsa) & you are taking classes this semester, then you can get it. As far as I know, the pell grant covers most of the program, I'm sure you'll have to come out of pocket for a little bit. I also thought of getting a loan this semester so I can start purchasing things, but I'm not full time this semester ?

oh man!!!! I took this semester off thinking there's no point in taking random classes that won't help me for nursing. Thinking that fasa will help with school and today the financial advisor told me there's no pell grant offered for this program just loans.

I think you can get student loan as long as you take at least 6 credits. I am not qualified for a pell grand, I took student loan this semester.(last year, I couldn't even get a loan! They told me I couldn't because I have a BS already. But this year money came without a question... The system is weird!) The life becomes much easier! As long as we can be hired soon after we become a nurse, repaying would not be too hard. I would consider taking a loan if you are stressed about money!

Oh I see. I wonder if you can apply again in spring?! Also scholarship(for the spring semester) application is due on 10/15, if you are interested.
